    2m more doses of Sinovac vaccine flown in from China

    ISLAMABAD: Two million more doses of China’s Sinovac vaccine reached Pakistan on Saturday, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

    Another consignment of 2 Million doses of #SinoVac Vaccine arrived in Pakistan on 21 Aug 21,” a spokesperson for the NDMA tweeted.

    Sources told ARY News that the vaccine arrived in Islamabad on board a Pakistan International Airport (PIA) flight and has been shifted to an EPI warehouse in the capital.

    They said two million more doses of the Chinese vaccine are expected to reach Islamabad tomorrow (Sunday).

    While the health authorities aim to procure as many as 30 million doses of different vaccines this month, 20 million of them have already been flown in.

    On August 16, the NDMA spokesperson had said that more doses of Sinopharm and Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines reached Pakistan on August 14 and 15. Pakistan received two million more doses of Sinopharm and consignment of four million doses of Sinovac vaccine, he added.

    NCOC issues guidelines for majalis, processions in Muharram

    ISLAMABAD: National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has issued guidelines to be adopted during majalis and processions in the month of Muharram amid the fourth COVID-19 wave in the country, ARY NEWS reported.

    According to the NCOC, the guidelines have been issued after consultation with the clerics and it was agreed that private majalis would be avoided at homes to stem the spread of COVID-19.

    All majalis and processions will be held while following COVID SOPs with strict adherence to social distancing, face masks, and thermal screening restrictions.

    Sanitizers and masks will be provided during the processions, it said adding that all Muharram-related events would be held in open-air and spaces having proper ventilation.

    The local administration and volunteers will help in the implementation of the SOPs besides also creating awareness among masses regarding it during the processions.

    The crescent of Muharram-ul-Haram 1443 AH, the first month of the Islamic Lunar Year, was sighted on Monday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced.

    Youm-e-Ashur (10th day of Muharram) will fall on August 19 (Thursday), Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, chairman of the moon sighting committee, said while briefing the media after a meeting that was attended, among others, by representatives of the ministries of Religious Affairs, Science and Technology, and SUPARCO.

    Pakistan to ‘receive’ 6mn doses of COVID vaccine through COVAX this week

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will receive a batch of 6 million doses of COVID vaccine under COVAX this week, boosting the country’s ability to inoculate its population as it faces the fourth wave of the virus, ARY NEWS reported on Tuesday.

    According to sources having knowledge of the shipment, 6 million doses of Sinopharm will be handed over to Pakistan in the ongoing week under the COVAX programme.

    “This is for the first time that Pakistan will be receiving Sinopharm vaccine under COVAX,” they said adding that previously the platform has provided Pakistan with 6.1 million doses of Covid vaccines.

    Pakistan has received 5.5 million doses of Moderna, 2.5 million doses of Astra Zeneca, and 100,000 doses of Pfizer through the COVAX platform, they said.

    Pakistan has expedited efforts to inoculate its population through restrictions imposed on unvaccinated people and on August 05, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) stated that over 1.15 million people were vaccinated during the last 24 hours in the country.

    The tally of COVID-19 vaccination in Pakistan is increasing with each passing day. According to the figures shared by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the vaccine doses administered across Pakistan in the last 24 hours stand at 11,58,744.

    It further shared that the total vaccines administered in Pakistan until now have reached beyond 34.24 million.

    ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane on Saturday brought another batch of 528,000 COVID vaccines from China as the country has expedited its vaccination process witnessing over 1 million COVID jabs in a day, ARY NEWS reported.

    According to sources, the vaccines brought from China would be shifted to a warehouse of the federal Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).

    The sources said that overall 1.32 million doses of Sinopharm have been brought in the last 24 hours to Pakistan and would be distributed among the provinces as per their needs.

    “792,000 Sinopharm doses has arrived in Pakistan yesterday while another 680,000 doses of the vaccine will reach Pakistan tomorrow,” they said adding that Pakistan has purchased two million doses of Sinopharm from a Chinese company.

    Earlier on Friday, as many as 64,000 more doses of Pfizer vaccine had reached Pakistan.

    The American vaccine had arrived in Islamabad onboard a foreign airline’s flight, the sources said.

    Pakistan had signed an agreement with Pfizer Inc for procurement of 13 million doses of the vaccine. 100,000 doses of the vaccine had arrived in Islamabad last month.

    The American vaccine would be administered to people with chronic diseases and weak immunity. People travelling abroad will also get the Pfizer shot.

    It is worth mentioning that the Government of Pakistan aims to vaccinate as many as 80 million citizens against the coronavirus by December-end. The arrival of more doses of Covid-19 vaccines will help the country ramp up vaccination.

    Earlier today, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) decided to offer a Covid-9 vaccine to students under 18 years of age, who intend to travel abroad to pursue higher studies.

    In a statement, the NCOC said vaccination is open to all citizens above 18 years of age. However, it added, students aged 16-18 years, who need to travel abroad for studies at universities requiring mandatory vaccination, will be administered Moderna vaccine.

    Students having valid visa and university documents will be administered a Covid-19.

    Overall 17,116 health workers infected with COVID-19 in Pakistan

    ISLAMABAD: The fourth COVID-19 wave in the country has also affected medics with the number of health workers getting infected with the virus reaching 17,116, ARY NEWS reported on Wednesday.

    According to a report prepared by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and conveyed to federal health ministry, as many as two health workers have died and 40 others got infected during the last 24 hours.

    “37 doctors and three health staffers are among those infected during the last day,” the sources said while quoting the report.

    They said that so far 10,261 doctors, 2,423 nurses, and 4,432 other health staffers have been infected by COVID-19 in the country while 168 of them have lost their fight against the infection.

    “453 health workers are currently isolating at their homes, and 30 at hospitals,” they said adding that 16,465 have so far recovered from the infection.

    Sindh, according to sources, remained most affected, as 6,000 health workers have tested positive for the infection and 60 others have succumbed to the infection.

    “3,489 medics got infected and 29 died in Punjab, followed by 4,047 positive cases among health workers and 44 deaths in KP,” they said 1,584 workers tested positive and 14 of them have so far died in Islamabad.

    The COVID-affected medics in Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK)  and Gilgit Baltistan stand at 858, 830, and 308 with nine health workers succumbing to infection in the former two and three in the latter.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday has received another consignment of 1.5 million doses of COVID vaccine from China, ARY News reported.

    As per details, 300,000 doses of CanSino and raw material for 1.2 million doses have reached Islamabad from China to strengthen Islamabad’s fight against the COVID-19.

    The recent consignment of the vaccine has been purchased by Islamabad.

    It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan has expedited the vaccination process in wake of the fourth COVID wave gripping the country and Federal Minister and Head of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) Asad Umar yesterday said that they have set another record after 10 million people received the jabs within 16 days.

    Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the NCOC head said that the country having a population of 220 million has inoculated 30 million people with the last 10 million being vaccinated in a record 16 days.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will receive 3.5 million doses of COVID vaccines from China within two days as the country has expedited its vaccination process in the wake of the fourth wave of the infection, ARY NEWS reported on Monday.

    According to sources privy to details, the vaccines to be brought to Pakistan included two million doses of Sinopharm and 1.5 million doses of Cansino.

    “The vaccines will be brought in two phases and the two million doses of Sinopharm is a gift from the Chinese government,” they said adding that the remaining 1.5 million was purchased by Pakistan from a Chinese company.

    The sources said that Pakistan would also be receiving 300,000 doses of CanSino besides also getting raw material for 1.2 million doses. “The Cansino vaccine will reach Islamabad on August 03,” they said adding that so far the Chinese government has gifted 1.72 million doses of the COVID vaccine.

    SC judge Qazi Faez Isa admitted to hospital due to Covid complications

    ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court’s (SC) Justice Qazi Faez Isa was admitted to a hospital on Saturday, a week after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

    Sources told ARY News that he was hospitalised due to complications from the coronavirus on the advice of doctors.

    Justice Isa was declared positive for the deadly virus last week and was being treated at his home since.

    A panel of doctors examined him and advised that he be shifted to a hospital for further treatment. His medical reports, including a computerised tomography (CT) scan, were declared unsatisfactory, the sources said.

    On July 24, Justice Qazi FaezIsa and his wife Sarina Isa had tested positive for COVID-19. The apex court’s deputy registrar had confirmed the news in a statement.

    Govt mulls over initiating COVID vaccination for people aged below 18

    ISLAMABAD: The federal government is planning to begin COVID vaccination for people aged below 18 in the country as efforts to inoculate the general public are being expedited in wake of the fourth virus wave in the country, ARY NEWS reported. 

    According to sources privy to the decision mulled over by the authorities, the federal government is planning to vaccinate people aged below 18 and a decision in this regard would be made by next week.

    “In the first phase, vaccination will be approved for people in the age bracket of 15 and 18 while in the second phase, people aged between 12 and 15 will be inoculated,” they said adding that NADRA has also been consulted on how the process could be facilitated.

    They said that currently, the government has focused on improving vaccination in 24 districts of the country where the positivity ratio has witnessed a surge. “The strategy has shown promising results with 904,000 people administered COVID doses during the past 24 hours,” they said.

    On June 09, National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) allowed walk-in vaccination of citizens aged 18.

    In a message on his official Twitter handle, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar, who also heads the NCOC, said: “In today’s National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) meeting it was decided to start scheduling vaccination of registered 18 plus.”

    “With this step, the vaccination of all eligible age groups would carried out,” he said, appealing to people to sign up for vaccination as soon as possible.

    On May 27,  the government started registering citizens aged 18 and above for vaccination against Covid-19. People in the age bracket of 19 to 30 years were asked to register themselves by sending CNIC to 1166.
