    2m more doses of Sinopharm vaccine to reach Pakistan

    ISLAMABAD: Two million more doses of China’s Sinopharm vaccine are set to reach Pakistan, ARY News reported, quoting informed sources.

    They said two consignments of the vaccine will arrive in Islamabad abroad Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights.

    One consignment will be flown in today while the other tomorrow. The Government of Pakistan purchased the two million doses of China’s Sinopharm vaccine from China, the sources said.

    Over 11.2 million doses of various vaccines have reached Pakistan in July, they said, adding a total of 15 million doses are to arrive in the country this month.

    It is worth mentioning that two million Sinopharm vaccines doses have been flown in this month. In addition, 5.5 million doses of Sinovac have also been brought to the country.

    On July 17, Pakistan received 1.24 million more doses of AstraZeneca vaccine under the Covax programme.

    Pakistan had received the first batch of the British vaccine on May 8, the sources in the National Health Ministry said, adding the country had thus far been provided three consignments of Covid vaccines under the Covax programme.

    The consignments include 1.62 million doses of Pfizer vaccine and 2.5m doses of Moderna.

    ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) has given the go-ahead to production of two locally-developed intensive care unit (ICU) ventilators, reported ARY News.

    The drug regulator’s registration board issued manufacturing licences to two firms under Medical Devices Rules 2017.

    Dr Asim Rauf, the head of the Drap, in a statement confirmed that the two companies were given permission to locally produce the ventilators. They had successfully developed the ICU ventilators, he added.

    The National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) developed one of the two ventilators and named it “Pakvent-I” while the other developed by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) was named “i-LIVE”.

    Earlier, the Drap head had said, “The development of the ventilator marks the beginning of a new dawn in the medical equipment development industry.”

    “It is a major step towards self-reliance,” he added.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would join the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) election campaign on the third day of Eid ul Adha after concluding his United States (US) trip, ARY NEWS reported on Sunday.

    According to sources privy to the details of Bilawal Bhutto’s schedule, the PPP chairman would begin the third phase of his election campaign in the AJK from July 23.

    “Bilawal Bhutto will attend two public gatherings in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on July 23,” they said adding that the first gathering would be in Bagh and the other in Muzaffarabad.

    Bilawal Bhutto will further spend the entire election day on July 25 in the AJK and will also visit polling stations to witness the polling process, the sources said.

    Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari has been leading the election campaign of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in the absence of chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari due to his US visit.

    Covid vaccination centres to stay closed on first day of Eid

    ISLAMABAD: Covid-19 vaccination centres across the country will remain closed on the first day of Eid-ul-Adha, ARY News reported, quoting sources.

    The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the top body overseeing the country’s Covid response, decided to close vaccination centres on the first day of Eid that will fall on July 21 (Wednesday), the sources said.

    The Covid-19 vaccination centres will open on the second day of Eid. The decision to keep the inoculation centres closed for just one day was made in light of people’s encouraging response to the vaccination drive, they said.

    It is noteworthy that the federal government has announced a three-day holiday for Eid-ul-Adha from July 20 to 22.

    The National Command and Operation Centre had recommended the federal government to extend the Eid-ul-Azha holidays. It suggested the government review its decision and announce five-day holidays on eve of Eid-ul-Azha. However, it’s suggestion was turned down.

    On Tuesday, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry clarified that the federal government will not extend Eid-ul-Azha holidays.  “No change in the schedule of Eid-ul-Azha holidays as Prime Minister Imran Khan is not in favor of prolonged holidays,” he added.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan received on Saturday 1.24 million more doses of AstraZeneca vaccine under the Covax programme, ARY News reported, quoting sources.

    A consignment containing 1.24 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses reached Islamabad this morning on board a foreign airline’s flight.

    ISLAMABAD: Another consignment of 1.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from China reached Islamabad today, ARY News reported.

    A special flight of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), carrying the Sinovac vaccine consignment landed at Islamabad International Airport on Thursday.

    Pakistan has purchased 1.5 million doses of Sinovac from China’s vaccine maker, sources said.

    Earlier, Pakistan had received a batch of two million vaccine doses on July 13.

    According to sources, the country would receive 15 million doses of various COVID vaccines during the ongoing month. Pakistan has so far received 8.5 mln doses of coronavirus vaccines from various sources in July.

    The country has already received two million doses of China’s Sinopharm and four million shots of Sinovac vaccines apart of 2.5 mln doses of US-made Moderna vaccine. according to sources.

    The sources earlier said that 100,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine purchased by Pakistan will also reach Islamabad in July while the country would also receive a consignment of Astra Zeneca vaccine under the Covax.

    AJK government places 10-day ban on tourism amid COVID surge

    MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Wednesday announced a 10-day ban on tourism in the region amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, ARY NEWS reported.

    According to a notification issued from the home department of the AJK government, the ban on tourism would remain in place for 10 days between 19 and 29 July.

    All tourist spots will remain closed during the period starting from 19 July and culminating on  29 July, it said.

    It is pertinent to mention here that COVID-19 cases have witnessed an alarming surge in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) where elections for the Legislative Assembly are scheduled on July 25 and all mainstream political parties are running their campaign.

    According to a report on Tuesday quoting sources in the national ministry for health, the Covid positivity ratio in the AJK has reached beyond 10 percent and during the last 24 hours, out of 723 tests performed, 76 people have tested positive for COVID-19.

    “Muzaffarabad district remains the most affected from the virus, followed by Poonch and Pallandri,” they said adding that 36 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours from Muzaffarabad, the capital of region while Poonch and Pallandri reported 21 and 13 cases respectively.

    Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and PML-N leaders Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maryam Nawaz have already launched their political campaign in the AJK.

    The schedule of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to address the rallies of his party candidates in connection with elections has also been finalized.

    According to a schedule, PM Imran will address a public rally in the Bagh district of AJK on July 17. The premier will also visit Mirpur, Muzaffarabad to address public gatherings ahead of polls in AJK.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will receive major shipments of COVID vaccines from China and under the COVAX program during the ongoing month in a bid to boost its vaccination process, ARY NEWS reported on Tuesday quoting sources.

    According to sources, the country would receive 15 million doses of various COVID vaccines during the ongoing month.

    “Two million doses of COVID vaccine will reach at Islamabad airport today,” they said adding that Pakistan purchased these doses of Sinovac from a Chinese company.

    They further said that Pakistan has already received 6.5 million doses of COVID jabs this month. “They included two million doses each of Sinopharm and Sinovac,” the sources said adding that Pakistan also received 2.5 million doses of Moderna under the COVAX program.

    The sources further said that 100,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine purchased by Pakistan will also reach Islamabad in July while the country would also receive a consignment of Astra Zeneca vaccine under the Covax.

    “The country will also receive raw material for Cansino vaccine from China which is currently being manufactured in Islamabad,” they said.

    Earlier in the day, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said that over half a million doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered in Pakistan in a single day.

    “For the first time, we crossed half a million doses of vaccination yesterday. 5 lakh 25 thousand doses were administered yesterday,” Umar, who also heads the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), tweeted.

    “Highest ever first dose was also achieved yesterday with 3 lakh 90 thousand first doses administered. The pace will increase further inshallah.”

    NCOC directs strict implementation on COVID SOPs over variants presence

    ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) on Sunday issued directives for SOPs implementation in high-risk sectors in wake of COVID variants being reported ahead of Eid ul Adha, ARY NEWS reported.

    According to the NCOC, they have launched special measures to implement COVID SOPs in high-risk sectors. “The provinces have been issued detailed directives for strict implementation on SOPs,” it said.

    The body overseeing COVID implementation strategies in the country said teams have been formed for implementing facemask and social distancing SOPs. “Guidelines have been issued for cattle markets and Eid ul Adha gatherings,” it said.

    The NCOC further made it mandatory to have COVID vaccination for hotel bookings in tourist spots of Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) besides also launching a mechanism to verify vaccine certificates at hotels and entry points to the tourism spots.

    Those coming to restaurants, gymnasium, cinemas, marriage halls should be vaccinated, the body said while calling for strict implementation of COVID SOPs at bus stops for inter and intra city public transport, and railway stations.

    The NCOC has also stressed upon implementation of guidelines at mosques and shopping centres besides also issuing a checklist for district administrations in this regard.  “Strict action will be taken against anyone violating the COVID SOPs,” it said.
