Alexander Isak may still go to Liverpool

With the transfer window deadline fast approaching, Liverpool are still optimistic to pull off the Alexander Isak signing this summer.

Football- Soccer News from Around The World

The Reds are still looking to add strength in their attack, after the departure of both Darwin Núñez and Luis Díaz, and the sad demise of Diogo Jota.

With Alexandar Isak trying to leave Newcastle United, Liverpool may come up with a fresh bid on Monday night.

Their initial bid for the striker was rejected by the Magpies and haven’t returned since.

Liverpool saw their opening bid for Isak rejected and haven’t returned since, although the situation may change after Monday’s game is complete.

The 25-year-old reported late after the summer break and trained with his former club Real Sociedad. He was the only member of the 2024-25 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) team of the year not to attend the award ceremony, citing “everything going on.”

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now — and why change is in the best interest of everyone, not just myself,” Isak said on Instagram.

Moyes thrilled for Grealish, who shines in Everton’s 2-0 win over Brighton

He was left out of the pre-season squad for the tour of Asia. He eventually returned to training at the start of the month.

However, he missed the season opener against Aston Villa, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

And with just six days remaining in the window, Liverpool are once again placing a bid of the Sweden international .

According to Ian Doyle in the Liverpool Echo, there have been “signs” that Newcastle are relenting in their stance that Isak is not for sale.

He suggests that Isak’s move to Anfield will happen “sooner rather than later” and that a £130million deal might be enough to seal it.

On the other hand, The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope stated that Isak is “almost certain” to stay at Newcastle this summer.

Indeed, it does feel incredibly unlikely that the club will sanction his exit.

However, the fact that Liverpool do not appear to be looking at any other alternatives does point to a certain degree of confidence in the Isak deal.

Lily Collins’ family disapproves of ‘Emily in Paris’

Lily Collins’ hit Netflix series ‘Emily in Paris’ fails to impress her own family members, as her father-in-law, Malcolm McDowell, confessed he doesn’t like the show.

In a brutally honest confession, veteran British actor Malcolm McDowell, father of Lily Collins’ husband Charlie McDowell, shared that he is the ‘biggest fan’ of his daughter-in-law, but not of her Netflix rom-com, ‘Emily in Paris’.

Lily Collins – News and Updates

“To be honest with you, it’s not my kind of thing, and Lily knows that,” the 82-year-old ‘A Clockwork Orange’ star said of the hit show. “But I’m the biggest fan of my daughter-in-law. I think she’s absolutely one of the great actresses.”

“As far as I’m concerned, when she’s on the screen, there’s nobody else on it, because she’s not only a good actress, but she has a beautiful quality,” the proud FIL added. “I suppose, it’s a sort of charisma.”

Moreover, McDowell also mentioned that Paris owes Collins ‘a great debt’ for all the tourism she brought in with her feature. “I’m sure [it] has gone up so much from people in the United States watching and going, ‘Yeah, let’s go to Paris,’” he maintained.

Notably, Collins leads the Darren Star series as Emily Cooper, who relocates from Chicago to Paris for a job opportunity, and juggles between career, friendships and love life, while being in the European city. The show, which first premiered in 2020, is set to return with the fifth season on December 18.

Pakistan Railways announces bullet train by 2030

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has unveiled a plan to launch a high-speed bullet train between Lahore and Karachi by 2030, significantly slashing travel time between the two provincial capitals from 20 hours to just five.

According to state-run Radio Pakistan, the 1,215-kilometer rail line will be part of the broader ML-1 (Main Line 1) project — a $6.7 billion upgrade of the Karachi–Peshawar railway corridor, central to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, speaking about the initiative, said the new bullet trains would operate at speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour, with major stops planned in Hyderabad, Multan, and Sahiwal.

The project is being developed with support from China, and the China Railway Construction Corporation is expected to play a key role in the implementation.

Upgrades under the project will include dual tracks, reconstructed bridges, and a state-of-the-art signaling system.

Beyond offering faster and more efficient passenger travel, the high-speed rail line is expected to boost Pakistan’s freight capacity, increasing the rail share from 4% to 20% by 2030.

Officials also expect the project to generate thousands of jobs during both construction and operational phases.

Additionally, the shift to rail is projected to reduce Pakistan’s reliance on expensive road transport, potentially saving billions in fuel imports.

While rail remains a crucial part of Pakistan’s transport infrastructure, it has long suffered from underinvestment, outdated technology, and frequent delays.

Pakistan Railways currently operates over 7,700 kilometers of track but faces chronic issues due to decades of neglect and mismanagement.

  • Benjamin Bonzi stuns Daniil Medvedev in US Open first round

Benjamin Bonzi stuns Daniil Medvedev in US Open first round

Benjamin Bonzi has the last laugh as he stunned Daniil Medvedev in the first round of the US Open late on Sunday.

The French seed survived a long battle to beat Medvedev 6-3, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 0-6, 6-4 in the opening round. This was his third victory over the Russian seed.

Moreover, it was also a second straight upset defeat for the former World number one in the first round of a grand slam.

The highlight of the game was an interruption for a photographer during the third set of the game, which left Medvedev fuming.

Bonzi was serving 5-4 with the advantage. His first serve hit the net. After the serve, a cameraman walked onto the court.

He was immediately stopped by the umpire and was told to get off the court. The cameraman decided to negate the first serve because of the disruption and unreasonable delay, giving Bonzi an extra serve.

Watch: Medvedev loses cool in crunch US Open tie against Bonzi

This delay triggered Medvedev, who went crazy. He went to the chair umpire and spoke into the microphone.

The Russian seed can be heard saying: “wanted to go home.”

He whipped up the crowd, who howled and booed the player and the play was stopped for nearly five minutes.

Bonzi eventually served and ultimately lost the point and the game.

Medvedev ultimately won the next game, putting himself in a position to win the set at 6-5.

Following that, Medvedev breezed past Bonzi in the fourth set to make the tie interesting.

However, Bonzi once again bounced back and quickly won the next two games to walk away with his win, it just came more than 90 minutes after he nearly closed it out the first time.

Medvedev started smashing his racquet hard after the loss while sitting on his bench, too, as the crowd around him started to boo. He didn’t stop until it was completely destroyed.

Medvedev has won just a single match in the four grand slams this season, too, just a year removed from his run to the quarterfinals at the US Open last fall.

Bonzi will now face Marcos Giron in the next round.
