    It’s been a year since Pakistan’s first-choice pacer, Shaheen Shah and his wife Ansha, daughter of iconic cricketer Shahid Afridi, embraced parenthood, welcoming their first child, Aliyaar, into this world on August 24, 2024.

    To mark this milestone, the cricketer turned to his Instagram handle with a rare picture of his one-year-old, celebrating the birthday in an intimate setting. “Happy Birthday Aliyaar – One year already!.. the moment I carried you for the very first time,” he wrote in the caption.

    “Watching you grow, smile, and take your tiny steps has been the most beautiful journey of our lives. Our greatest blessing and our purest joy,” Afridi added.

    “Mama & Baba love you more than words can ever say,” he concluded.

    Thousands of social users liked his post and extended their heartfelt birthday wishes for Aliyaar via the comments section.

    Notably, the National team’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi tied the knot with Ansha, the second-eldest daughter of the former skipper, in September 2023.

    HANGU: Three personnel of the Federal Constabulary (FC) embraced martyrdom in Hangu after repelling a terrorist assault by India-backed militants.

    Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur attended the funeral prayers of the martyrs at the FC Headquarters in Peshawar. Inspector General of KP Police Zulfiqar Hameed, FC Commandant Nazir Gaara, the KP Chief Secretary, and other senior officials were also present.

    The martyrs were identified as Naik Sadiq Hussain, Constable Abdul Ghaffar, and Constable Zewar Khan. Their coffins, draped in the national flag, were laid to rest with full honors, as floral wreaths were placed and prayers offered for their eternal peace.

    Paying tribute to their sacrifice, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said: “The sacrifices of these valiant sons will never go in vain. Their courage is a beacon for the nation, and their families are our families. The people of Pakistan will forever remain indebted to them.” Together with CM Gandapur, he shouldered the coffins.

    Later, the minister met the bereaved families to offer condolences and assured them of the government’s full support. He also visited the FC Hospital to inquire after Naib Subedar Kashif, who was injured in the attack, praising his bravery in confronting the militants.

    Senior civil and military officials reaffirmed that the blood of martyrs would not go in vain and pledged that the fight against terrorism would continue with full determination.

    KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Monday granted police a four-day physical remand of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Chanesar Town Chairman, Farhan Ghani, in a terrorism case related to the assault of a government employee.

    Police produced Farhan Ghani along with two accomplices before the ATC judge. Despite the presence of a large number of lawyers affiliated with the PPP’s lawyers’ wing, no counsel appeared on behalf of Farhan Ghani or his associates. The court noted that Ghani himself confirmed he had not appointed any lawyer to represent him.

    The prosecution requested physical remand, which the court approved, directing police to present the accused again on August 28 along with a progress report. The court also recorded that the accused made no allegation of mistreatment by police during custody.

    Earlier, Farhan Ghani, the younger brother of senior PPP leader and Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, was arrested in a terrorism and attempted murder case for allegedly assaulting a government employee supervising fibre optic network work on Sharah-e-Faisal.

    The FIR registered at Ferozabad police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act includes charges of attempted murder, issuing death threats, rioting while armed with deadly weapons, obstructing a public servant in the discharge of official duties, and other sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

    KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab on Monday visited Gulshan Hadeed to inspect the under-progress work of two new water supply lines for the locality.

    Mayor Murtaza Wahab said that the negligence of Pakistan Steel Mills management deprived Gulshan Hadeed from water supply. “People were facing hardships owing to the obstinate attitude of some individuals,” Wahab remarked.

    “Karachi’s leadership will take all possible measures to provide facilities to general public,” Mayor said.

    “We will initiate water supply lines work in more areas in coming days,” he said.

    Murtaza Wahab directed the water corporation officials to ensure completion of the water supply work within two weeks.

    Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, UC chairman and other officials were also accompanied with the mayor.

    LAHORE: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has sought a Rs291 per MMBTU increase in gas transportation charges, ARY News reported on Monday.

    The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) held a public hearing on the proposed price hike, during which representatives from the CNG sector, textile industry, and other industrial users strongly opposed the increase.

    Chairman of the CNG Association, Ghayas Paracha, accused SNGPL of shifting the burden of its inefficiencies onto consumers.

    “SNGPL must reduce its own expenses instead of penalizing users,” he said.

    He added that SNGPL had initially requested a Rs271 hike, and has now increased its demand by an additional Rs20.

    “Gas is available in sufficient quantities, yet consumers are not receiving adequate supply,” Paracha noted.

    The proposed increase is yet to be approved by OGRA.

    Earlier, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) issued additional gas bills worth billions of rupees to industries for consumption dating back 10 years.

    According to industry representatives, the bills cover additional RLNG charges for the period between 2015 and 2022.

    They stated that they have already settled all gas dues for those years and cannot pay the extra charges to SNGPL.

    Industrialists also complained that the additional RLNG bills are nearly 200 percent higher than previous amounts and SNGPL has given a two-day deadline for payment. They warned that if the government does not intervene, factories across the region may shut down.

    LAHORE: Pakistan on Monday dispatched its 21st relief consignment for Gaza, comprising 100 tons of essential supplies, from Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore.

    The aid was sent under the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif as part of Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to support the people of Gaza. The consignment included ration bags, ready-to-eat meals, and canned fruit to help address urgent food shortages.

    In the latest phase of relief operations, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has delivered an additional 412 tons of supplies through five separate flights. With this latest consignment, the total aid sent by Pakistan to Gaza has reached 2,027 tons across 21 consignments.

    Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, attended the send-off ceremony as the chief guest, along with government representatives and senior NDMA officials.

    Speaking on the occasion, the minister lauded the NDMA and partner welfare organizations for their swift and coordinated efforts. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with Palestine and pledged continued humanitarian assistance during this critical time.

    Earlier, on August 23, the 19th consignment carrying 100 tons of aid was dispatched from Lahore, while the 4th shipment, comprising 12 tons, departed from Islamabad.

    Police submit preliminary report against K-Electric officials on electrocution deaths

    KARACHI: Police on Monday submitted a preliminary report in court against K-Electric officials over the deaths of two brothers who were electrocuted during heavy rains in Shah Faisal Colony on August 19.

    An FIR had earlier been registered at Shah Faisal Colony Police Station on the complaint of a citizen, Sultan, under sections of negligence and criminal liability. The case names K-Electric CEO Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi and officials of IBC Shah Faisal.

    The report was presented before the Judicial Magistrate East at Karachi’s City Court.

    According to the report, 10-year-old Siraj went out to buy groceries during the downpour when he was electrocuted by an exposed underground high-tension cable. His elder brother, Murad, 20, rushed to rescue him but was also electrocuted.

    Residents managed to pull the brothers out, but Siraj died on the spot. Murad succumbed later as he could not be shifted to hospital in time due to heavy rain, waterlogging, and traffic jams.
