    Pistol used in Ali Raza Abidi’s assassination used before in Liaquatabad murder: sources

    KARACHI: The pistol used in the killing of former MNA Ali Raza Abidi was used before in the killing of a man named Ehtisham on December 10, sources within police’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) told ARY News on Wednesday.

    According to details, a forensic examination of the bullet shells recovered from the crime scene revealed that the same 30-bore pistol was used in the killing of man named Ehtisham in Liaquatabad area of the city.

    The man named Ehtisham was killed over some minor dispute in Liaquatabad area and police had registered the case in the area police station.

    Earlier, CM Sindh also chaired a meeting of law enforcement agencies and ordered immediate arrest of Ali Raza Abidi’s killers.

    DIG South, while briefing the CM Sindh said that the CCTV footage is being examined while the five bullet shells recovered from the crime scene have been sent for forensic examination.

    The police officer assured the chief minister that the assassins will be arrested as police have some major clues to help it in investigation.

    IG Sindh Syed Kaleem Imam informed the CM that Abidi’s cellphone is being decoded for further investigation.

    The brutal assassination

    Former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MNA Ali Raza Abidi was gunned down late night on December 25 outside his residence in DHA area of the metropolis.

    The CCTV footage of the incident showed that two unidentified assailants chased Abidi and when the politician stopped his vehicle in front of his residence, in Khayaban-e-Ittehad locality, one of the assailants opened fire on Abidi and managed to escape from the scene.

    Police officials said that the former MQM leader was alone in his car when he was attacked. The officials confirmed that he received bullet injuries in the attack and was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

    KARACHI: Police in an action on Tuesday arrested two shooters of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) from New Karachi, and confiscated two Kalashinkov, hand grenades from their custody, ARY News reported.


    Briefing the media about the police’s action, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central Arif Aslam, said that the New Karachi police in a raid here today, arrested two target killers of MQM-London.

    “The target killers identified as Kashif alias Kala and Asif a.k.a. Metha were involved in killing of 15 persons and other law-breaking activities,” said SSP central.

    Kashif gunned down 13 people, while Asif had shot dead 2 persons in year 2011-12, the SSP central continued.

    Furthermore, Asif was also involved in firing over Jeay Sindh rally and other heinous crimes.

    Mr Arif Aslam said the accused were also involved in torching public properties during strikes in the past. Two Kalashnikov and hand grenades were also recovered from the custody of arrested shooter of MQM-London.

    Sindh Rangers on Sunday (December 2) arrested target killer of Muthaida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) from Karachi’s area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

    According to the details shared by the paramilitary forces, MQM-L’s target killer was nabbed from Disco Bakery, an area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi.

    “The arrested killer identified as Farooq, was involved and wanted to LEAS in many heinous crimes of murders and others in the metropolis,” the spokesperson of the Rangers said.

    Farooq also played an active role in clash between MQM and Lyari gang war and also killed one in 2013.

    The arrested target killer was later handed over to the police by Sindh Rangers.

    KARACHI: In a move to address complaints of the citizens visiting Karachi’s Tariq Road, Sindh Police has formed a Rapid Response Force (RRF).

    Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Azfar Mahesar while talking to ARY News’ correspondent, Nazir Shah after inaugurating the RRF said, the force will be responsible for ensuring security of the shopping malls at city’s main shopping street, Tariq road and will address the complaints of the citizens immediately.

    “Force comprising 40 personnel, having motorbikes for rapid movement towards any spot at Tariq road, will work in two shifts,” said SSP East, adding the time will be enhanced at later stage.

    SSP East advised people visiting Tariq road to contact the force, in case of any complaint, while in order to facilitate women, female cops have been also inducted in the rapid response force.

    The top cop said security cameras have been installed to ensure security of shopping malls situated at the main and the famous street of the metropolis.

    Citizens were advised to contact SSP East, if they have any complaint against the rapid response force. (more…)

    Police officer caught on camera buying drugs in Karachi

    KARACHI: A police officer was caught on camera buying drugs from illegal drug sellers in Karachi’s Rehri goth area.

    According to details, a video obtained by ARY News shows a police officer buying drugs from illegal drug sellers within the precincts of Sakhan police station.

    The police officer can be seen buying drugs from an illegal drug seller and leaving on his motorcycle in the video. The law enforcement agency personnel seems unbothered by presence of large number of drug addicts and sellers around him.

    Soon after the news was aired, Karachi police chief Ameer Shaikh took notice of the incident and ordered DIG East to conduct an inquiry into the matter. The police chief also ordered the DIG to take steps for elimination of drug trade in the area.

    It is pertinent to note here that ARY News also ran a special report regarding drug peddlers making Rehri Goth and surrounding areas the center of their illegal business.

    The report too had revealed that some police personnel are protecting drug peddlers after extorting them.

    Addicts in groups of two, three can still be seen lying in streets and lanes. Addicts come to these den to buy drugs and would sit anywhere they feel free to use the same.

    Madressa teacher arrested for torturing students in Hyderabad

    HYDERABAD: Sindh police on Friday arrested a madressa teacher in Hyderabad city after a video of him torturing students went viral on social media, ARY News reported.

    The video of the madressa (religious seminary) teacher torturing students with a pipe went viral on social media on Thursday prompting Inspector General Sindh to take notice of the incident and order arrest.

    The madressa teacher can be seen punishing the students by brutally torturing them with a rubber pipe in the madressa located inside a mosque in Masoom Shah colony of Hyderabad city.

    As a man admonishes him for his behaviour, he replies that none can stop him even if he kills his students.

    “None can harm me even if I kill them,” the teacher can be seen saying in the video.

    Shabbir Ahmed was taken into custody by local police after IG Sindh ordered his immediate arrest and inquiry.

    Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah also took notice of the incident and has ordered Hyderabad commissioner to submit a report.

    The CM, while ordering an inquiry, said that nobody should be allowed to torture children, adding that education department should start counseling sessions to prevent future incidents of abuse.

    As police took the teacher named Shabbir Ahmed into custody, it emerged that he himself is a police officer and worked part time as a madressa teacher.

    Shabbir Ahmed was suspended while a case has been registered against him on the complaint of a student’s father.

    As police took the teacher named Shabbir Ahmed into custody, it emerged that he himself is a police officer and worked part time as a madressa teacher.

    The viral video and the arrest

    KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) is preparing for a full scale war with law enforcement agencies in Karachi, two suspects belonging to party’s South Africa chapter told police on Thursday.

    According to details, the two MQM-South Africa members arrested from North Karachi on December 11 have told police that MQM-L was preparing for a full scale war against police and the latest task assigned to them was killing of three political leaders.

    Sources told ARY News that the two suspects named Mustaqeem and Muqeem told police that they had a task of killing three politicians within few days and were in contact with MQM South Africa chapter’s Shuja Bobby group in order to take orders from the central command for disrupting peace in Karachi.

    Rangers had arrested the duo on Tuesday, December 11 from North Karachi and then raided a house in Azizabad, Federal B Area upon information provided by them to recover a huge quantity of arms and munition.

    According to Rangers spokesman, 195 rifle grenades, 98 40mm grenades, 52 hand-grenades, 13 illuminate grenades, 19 Avan bombs, 11 RPG7 rockets, 49 safety fuses, 170 detonators, 17 kilo plastic explosives, two RPGs, one grenade launcher, 2MP5 six MG, five LMGs, one HMG and two snipers were among the captured munitions.

    Moreover, four SMGs, a 222 war rifle, a double two bore rifle, six 7mm rifles, two G3 rifles, two pistols and four SMG grenade launchers and other arms also recovered.

    The accused confessed their involvement in several terror activities and said that they went in hiding after a raid on MQM head office nine-zero in March 2015.

    Police arrest gang of teenage motorcycle thieves

    KARACHI: Police have arrested a six-member gang of teenage motorcycle thieves on Wednesday in Karachi, ARY News reported.

    Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Arif Aslam Rao said the culprits had confessed to dozens of crimes including stealing bikes from within limits of different police stations in Central District, Karachi. He said acting upon the information received from them, police have recovered nine motorcycles.

    “The brazen young suspects are aged between 14 and 18, but they are adroit at stealing bikes,” he said.

    The police officer told that the suspects, Aamir Hyder, Saleem alias Khachia, Khairullah, Kamran, Khan Wali and Shehzad, were arrested by Sir Syed police station personnel.

    According to details, the ACLC returned vehicles including motorcycles, cars and dumper-trucks, recovered during last month, to their respective owners.

    Speaking exclusively to ARY News, SSP ACLC Munir Ahmed Sheikh said that these vehicles were recovered last month and the department has organised this ceremony as a “confidence building measure”.

    KARACHI: In a ceremony attended by Karachi police chief, Anti Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) on Wednesday returned vehicles worth millions to their owners in Karachi, ARY News reported.

    According to details, the ACLC returned vehicles including motorcycles, cars and dumper-trucks recovered during last month to their respective owners.

    Speaking exclusively to ARY News, SSP ACLC Munir Ahmed Sheikh said that these vehicles were recovered last month and the department has organised this ceremony as a “confidence building measure”.

    “This was a confidence building measure, the vehicles are worth millions as you can see there are around 20 cars and 50 motorcycles,” said Munir Sheikh.

    Karachi police chief Ameer Ahmed Sheikh, while addressing the ceremony, said that police force’s performance is improving by the day but not only in Sindh, but across the country, lack of security infrastructure is hindering the process.

    “We need security infrastructure (across the country) to improve our performance,” said Ameer Shaikh, adding that Karachi, particularly needs safe city project on the same footing as Lahore.

    About car lifting incidents and misuse of vehicles, the police chief said that the unregistered vehicles and vehicles running on open letter are a major nuisance.

    “The vehicle used in Chinese Consulate attack was registered in the name of a dead person, the owner had died six years ago,” revealed the police chief.

    Ameer Sheikh returned keys of recovered vehicles to their owners and expressed satisfaction over ACLC’s performance.
