KARACHI: A video went viral on Monday showing a minor boy stealing equipment from railway tracks in Karachi.
The incident was reportedly filmed near the Wireless Gate in Shah Faisal Colony, where the boy was seen removing iron bolts used to align the railway line. A passerby caught the child, who confessed that he sold the stolen iron to a local scrap dealer.
The boy confessed that he removed around four bolts daily and sold each for Rs50 to a scrap dealer named Shahid, who allegedly purchased the stolen material. He was carrying the iron pieces in a white plastic bag when he was caught.
Railway officials warned that such thefts could cause major accidents by destabilizing the track alignment. Police said they are investigating the viral video to verify when and where it was recorded, and are also gathering information about the scrap dealer named by the child.
Farhan Ghani, brother of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and provincial minister Saeed Ghani, has been arrested along with his associates on charges of assault, ARY News reported on Sunday.
According to details, Farhan Ghani and his accomplices were taken into custody following an incident involving the assault of a government official.
Police sources confirm that a case has been registered under anti-terrorism provisions at the Ferozabad Police Station against Farhan Ghani and his associates for allegedly attacking a government employee.
The FIR was lodged following a complaint by the official. The police have stated that further investigation is ongoing to support the registration of the case.
As per the FIR, charges include attempted murder, issuing death threats, and other serious offenses. In addition to Farhan Ghani, the names of Qamaruddin, Shakeel Chandio, Sikandar, and Roohan are also mentioned in the report.
The complaint was filed by Hafiz Sohail, a government employee, who stated:
“I am a government servant, and on August 22, I was on duty on the service road near Shahrah-e-Faisal.”
According to the FIR, the complainant was supervising the laying of fiber optic cables when 20 to 25 men arrived in three vehicles.
The complainant recognized the attackers as Farhan Ghani, Qamaruddin, Shakeel, Sikandar, and Roohan. He mentioned he would be able to identify the other assailants if presented later.
“When the vehicles stopped, one man called me over and asked under whose authority we were digging the road,” said the complainant. “I introduced myself and informed them that the work was being conducted with proper NOCs from government departments.”
He further stated, “They started misbehaving and demanded the work be stopped. They verbally abused and began physically assaulting me. Despite repeatedly identifying myself, they continued beating me, questioning why the work wasn’t stopped on their boss’s orders.”
“Four to five armed individuals aimed their weapons at me with the intent to kill and continued abusing and assaulting me,” the complaint added.
“One of them suggested calling the police emergency helpline (15) and handing me over. I was then forcibly dragged and locked in a room at a nearby petrol station, where they continued to beat me.”
Police eventually arrived at the scene, rescued the complainant, and took him to the police station.
KARACHI: Serious allegations have emerged against the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) personnel in Karachi for their alleged involvement in a robbery and the short-term abduction of an elderly citizen, ARY News reported.
According to details, the incident occurred in Karachi’s Lines Area, where a young man named Bilawal accused AVLC officials of raiding his family-owned general store on the night of August 19.
He claimed that two CIA mobile vans arrived at the shop and harassed his father, Noor Ahmed, before breaking into the second section of the store.
The suspects reportedly took away Rs 1.09 million in cash from inside the store and removed security cameras to eliminate evidence.
After the alleged robbery, the AVLC officials allegedly forced Noor Ahmed into a police mobile and took him away, Bilawal stated.
The family searched across Karachi for two to three days with no information about Noor Ahmed’s whereabouts.
Bilawal further alleged that when he demanded the return of the stolen money, the officials verbally abused him and only handed back the shop documents, not the cash.
Sources said the raid was carried out by the AVLC Ajmer Nagri team, led by DSP Muhammad Khan of New Karachi.
The team reportedly included constables Ghazi, Sarfaraz, Bilal, Aamir, and Shakeel, along with Shahzad alias Shah Ji, and a private individual named Jahangir.
The Karachi police sources revealed that four members of the team were in uniform while eight to ten others were in plain clothes.
Noor Ahmed was allegedly kept on the first floor of the AVLC police station in Karachi during the illegal detention.
Following ARY News’ report, SSP Amjad Sheikh took strict notice of the matter and directed the DSP Admin to conduct an immediate inquiry to uncover the facts.
The Karachi police spokesperson confirmed that strict legal action will be taken after the investigation.
KARACHI: The Death toll in the Karachi firecracker warehouse explosion jumped to five as rescue officials retrieved another body from the debris, ARY News reported on Friday.
An explosion was reported at a firecracker warehouse on MA Jinnah Road on Thursday evening. More than 12 fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames, while heavy contingents of Karachi police and Rangers cordoned off the area.
The Sindh Police spokesperson said SSU commandos also joined the relief operation and rescued people trapped on the roof of the building.
According to police, a case has been registered at the Preedy Police Station on behalf of the state. The FIR includes serious charges such as attempted murder and manslaughter (Qatl bil sabab).
Two individuals, Hanif (the warehouse owner) and Muhammad Ayub, have been nominated in the case.
Police further stated that Hanif is currently under treatment at a hospital in injured condition.
Earlier, a massive fire broke out at a factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone.
Rescue officials believe the fire originated in the basement of the affected building. The blaze was quickly categorised as a third-degree fire.
At least 16 fire tenders and two water bowsers were deployed at the scene. During the operation, two sections of the factory collapsed.
The fire caused the factory to reduced to rubble, raising serious questions about fire safety protocols and emergency response infrastructure in Karachi’s industrial zones.

KARACHI: At least eight people have lost their lives in various rain-related incidents as heavy downpours continued to lash the city since Tuesday morning, disrupting daily life and crippling civic infrastructure.
The intermittent heavy rain caused urban flooding in several areas, leaving roads submerged and the city’s routine activities paralyzed.
According to reports, four people were killed in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 12 when a wall collapsed. Two others died from electrocution in North Karachi and Defence, while another young man lost his life to electrocution in Orangi Town.
Additionally, one person was killed after a fire broke out at a petrol pump in Malir during the rain.
Sindh CM Announces Public Holiday on Wednesday
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has declared a public holiday in Karachi for Wednesday in view of the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) forecast of more heavy downpours in the city.
According to the CM’s statement, the decision has been taken to ensure the safety of citizens, urging people to remain indoors as more torrential rains are expected. He said the step was necessary to prevent difficulties for the public as the city braces for another spell of intense showers.
Amid the worsening urban flooding situation, the Sindh government has announced that all public and private schools will remain closed tomorrow (Wednesday).
Heavy rainfall lashed parts of Karachi on Tuesday morning, bringing the much-needed relief to the humid weather-hit people of the port city.
According to details, light showers that started in different areas of Karachi last night turned into heavy rainfall by early morning.

The Met Office also warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas of Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Lahore, Attock, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, and Thatta due to heavy rainfall.

KARACHI: A worker died of suffocation in Karachi after being trapped in a lift of a garment factory at Vita Chowrangi, Korangi, ARY News reported.
The incident occurred when the worker named Kashif sent by factory management to fetch tea, became stuck in the lift, with half his body trapped above and the other half below.
Sources revealed factory management failed to inform the police and attempted to conceal the incident. No lift technician or trained professional was called to assist, leading to the worker’s tragic death.
The police have taken notice of the incident and initiated an inquiry.
This accident follows a pattern of lift-related tragedies in Karachi as in a similar incident occurred in a residential building in Gulistan-e-Johar, Block 19, a young boy, the only son of his parents, lost his life in December 2024.
Authorities attempted to safely extract the boy by cutting the lift, but he was severely injured and succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the hospital.
KARACHI: More shocking revelations have surfaced in the Defence Housing Authority’s (DHA) Khayaban-e-Mujahid double murder case, where Adeeba killed her children, Zarar and Sumiya, on 14 August, ARY News reported.
Investigators found WhatsApp messages between Adeeba and her ex-husband Ghufran. In the chats, Adeeba asked if Zarar had a shalwar kameez and whether Sumiya had prepared her clothes for Independence Day.
She also reminded Ghufran to buy flags and dress the children. Ghufran replied “okay” to all her requests and even sent pictures of the children ready for the celebration. Hours later, both were killed by their mother.
One chilling message from Adeeba to Ghufran read: “Now you must be happy with what has happened because of you.”
Karachi police officials say audio and visual evidence from the initial probe has been collected.

Earlier, a mother brutally killed her two children by slitting their throats. The tragic event occurred in the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station, Nawabshah.
According to reports, the mother, identified as Komal Sheikh, was taken into custody. During initial interrogation, the mother confessed to the crime, admitting that she had killed her children with a knife in separate rooms.
When questioned about her motive for committing the heinous act, the suspect remained silent and refused to provide any explanation.
KARACHI: Independence Day celebrations in Karachi turned tragic as celebratory aerial firing claimed three lives and injured at least 82 people.
The Pakistan nation is celebrating the 78th Independence Day today with a renewed pledge to work with spirit of Pakistan Movement to make country a true Islamic welfare state.
According to police, the incidents were reported across the city, with 30 injuries in East Zone, 43 in West Zone, and 12 in South Zone.
In Azizabad, an eight-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by a bullet to the head.
In separate incidents in Korangi and Lyari, elderly men died after being shot in the head and neck. Among the injured were 51 men, 24 women, six boys, and one girl.
Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon took notice of the shootings, stressing that Independence Day is not meant to endanger lives.
“Celebrating does not mean taking someone’s life,” he said, urging citizens to avoid aerial firing.
