Notify Mansoor Ali Shah as next CJP, Maulana Fazl ‘suggests’ PML-N

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has advised PML-N to notify Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), ARY News reported citing sources.

According to sources, the JUI-F head warned that any delay in notifying the next CJP could lead to further complications.

He emphasized the need for both the government and opposition to draft their proposals, with two separate drafts – one from the PPP and PML-N (government alliance) and another from the opposition.

This development came after two meetings between Rehman and PTI leaders, with the first meeting taking place in the National Assembly.

Yesterday, Maulana Fazlur Rehman warned of halting talks with the government on the proposed constitutional amendment draft amid ‘pressure’ on their members.

Talking to the media along with PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan and other party leaders in Islamabad, the JUI-F chief said: “We are engaging with the government with absolute open-heartedness.”

Sadly, we are receiving reports of pressure being exerted on their members, and both PTI and BNP members are being intimidated.

“If these tactics continue, they will be compelled to stop negotiations,” cautioned Fazlur Rehman.

It important to note here that the government reached a full agreement on the formation of a permanent constitutional bench in the Supreme Court.

Sources close to the development revealed that the bench will consist of seven permanent judges who cannot be removed, providing a stable judiciary for handling constitutional matters.

In addition to hearing constitutional petitions, these judges will also be able to preside over other types of cases, as per sources.

The Judiciary Commission will be granted authority to appoint these permanent judges, ensuring a structured and formal process for their selection.

Moreover, discussions include a proposal to abolish the involvement of the Supreme Court in electing members of the Chief Election Commission of Paksitan (ECP).

Gandapur’s absence demoralised PTI workers: Atif Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Atif Khan said that Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur’s absence demoralised party workers during their protest at Islamabad’s D-Chowk.

In an exclusive interview with ARY News, Atif Khan said that there was no clear message from the party leadership regarding the protest strategy on October 4.

“The leadership should have clarified its further course of action after the workers reached D-Chowk. The workers should have been communicated clearly to hold just a protest or stage a sit-in,” Atif Khan added.

He said that after all that, the PTI workers are disappointed.  Expressing concerns over the party’s current trajectory, Atif Khan said that currently they are lacking clear direction and decision-making.

To a question, he said the PTI cannot be eliminated by the forces who want to do so. “Eventually, stakeholders will have to negotiate and find a way forward with the PTI.”

When asked about potential deals, Atif Khan responded, “Deals are made for personal gain, while the right path is for the country’s benefit.”

Regarding the PTI’s current leadership, Atif Khan voiced his dissatisfaction, stating, “Everyone in the party is playing a double game; those who meet in Adiala Jail (with Imran Khan) discuss unnecessary matters.”

To another query, Atif Khan said that the government will not last long for sure.

JUI-F denies breakthrough on constitutional amendments with Centre

ISLAMABAD: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has denied reaching a breakthrough on constitutional amendments with the federal government, ARY News reported.

As per detail, the JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri said that its the incumbent government’s headache to pass the constitutional amendments before October 25, not JUI-F’s.

The spokesperson revealed that 90% of the proposed amendments draft is ready and will be shared with PTI and PPP. However, he clarified that they don’t want a constitutional court that is above the Supreme Court. He emphasized that their principal stance is that constitutional amendments should be acceptable to all.

He proposed that if there is no agreement on a constitutional court, a separate bench should be established in the Supreme Court, comprising 4-5 judges, under the Chief Justice. He stressed that constitutional amendments are for the 250 million people of Pakistan, not for an individual or government.

The JUI-F leader also mentioned that the draft provided to them by the People’s Party was different, which caused concerns for Bilawal.

Earlier, report circulated that the government achieved breakthrough in talks with JUI’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman over the proposed 26th constitutional amendment.

Sources said that the government reached to an agreement with the JUI Leader over establishment of a constitutional court.
