Ireland pacer Liam McCarthy made a disastrous T20I debut as he conceded 81 runs in his four overs in the third West Indies vs Ireland game.

The right-arm pacer was off to a dismal start in his debut game, leaking 18 runs in his first over at Bready Cricket Club in Northern Ireland on Sunday.

While he made a comeback by conceding just six runs in his second over, he was hit for two fours and five sixes in his final two overs.

In total, Liam McCarthy conceded 81 runs in his four overs, the most expensive T20I bowling spell by a bowler from a Test-playing nation.

McCarthy conceded 11 fours and five sixes on his 24 balls, with his final over going for 24 runs.

Liam McCarthy’s bowling spell in the game has also become the second-most expensive bowling spell in T20I history.

Gambia’s Musa Jobarteh holds the unwanted record of the most expensive spell in a T20I, with 93 runs conceded in four overs against Zimbabwe in 2024.

The third West Indies vs Ireland game saw the visitors post a massive total of 256/5 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 257, the home side was restricted to 194/7 in their 20 overs as the visitors won the third West Indies vs Ireland game by 62 runs.

With the win in the final game, West Indies sealed the series 1-0 after the first two games were abandoned due to the heavy rain.
