South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada has reflected on his and the side’s journey to the historic triumph in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Kagiso Rabada was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa, taking nine wickets in the WTC final.
“Definitely the highest accolade so far in my cricketing career and one of the most special moments in my life,” he said during a chat following the ultimate Test.
He added, “It just shows that this didn’t happen by fluke. As I have said earlier with Graeme [Smith], I think we have worked really hard. We have planned very well. We had our sights on this occasion.”
When asked about his favourite wicket in the WTC final, Kagiso Rabada named his delivery to Australia captain Pat Cummins, which hit his off stump.
“That’s a tough one. I will probably say, the one of Cummins. I think it [ball] straightened quite a bit off the angle, and that was what I was trying to do,” the South Africa pacer said.

The right-arm pacer said that self-belief was the most important factor in South Africa’s flying campaign in this WTC cycle and their consequent triumph in the ultimate Test.
“Belief. Not listening to outside noise, thinking it is irrelevant. So, the guys have built up that belief throughout the entire season with this inexperienced team. And I think that got us over the line at the end,” he added.
A day earlier, South Africa sealed a five-wicket victory over Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s, their first ICC title in 27 years.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma became the first captain to win the WTC final unbeaten.
During this WTC cycle, Bavuma led South Africa in eight games, with the Proteas winning seven and drawing one.
Kagiso Rabada reserved high praise for Temba Bavuma for leading the side to victory in the ultimate Test despite facing criticism throughout his career.
“To come back and continue to churn out performances and giving his all throughout the criticism that he receives. I think this is fitting for him,” the South Africa pacer added.
