CHILE: Pope Francis was forced to bring his motorcade to a halt in Chile when a police officer fell off her horse.

Shortly after a mass in Iquique, the popemobile swerved quickly out of the way as a rearing horse stumbled onto the road.

Calmly leaving the vehicle, the pontiff stood by the officer’s side until an ambulance arrived.

The Vatican said the woman was conscious ‘and received some words of consolation from the Holy Father’.

He is in Chile at the moment where he hit out at victims of Chile’s most notorious paedophile priest, accusing them of slander.
