KARACHI: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two alleged muggers who used to rob hair salons in Karachi from Chakiwara area of Lyari neighbourhood, ARY NEWS reported.
According to details, the suspects identified as Muhammad Kashif and Muhammad Asif were traced after CCTV footage of robberies at multiple hair salons in Karachi showed their involvement.
The police after discovering their identities carried out a raid in Chakiwara area and arrested them.
During the initial investigation, the suspects confirmed that they were involved in robberies at three hair salons in Garden and two others in Kharadar area besides also admitting robberies at batteries and tyre shops.
“They started looting hair salons in order to get more money,” they said and added that suspects shared that it was easy for them to not only snatch money from cash counters but also deprive customers at the salons of their belongings.
Robberies at hair salons have been reported previously and in one such incident recently, a passer-by was shot dead while a policeman sustained injuries after the latter resisted a robbery bid at a barber’s shop in Karachi’s Federal B Area neighbourhood.
According to police, the incident occurred at a barber’s shop in block 14 of the FB Area when armed robbers entered a salon to deprive those getting a haircut of their belongings.
As they looted those present in the barber shop, a policeman who was also getting a haircut opened fire on the intruders, resulting in an exchange of fire which resulted in injuries to the cop.
“A passer-by also sustained a bullet wound and died on the spot,” they said.
