ISLAMABAD: Torrential rain lashed Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other adjoining areas on Wednesday night as the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast rain with thunderstorm at scattered places in Balochistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The weather department said continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country as a fresh westerly wave is likely to affect western central and upper parts of the country on Thursday and Friday.
Partly cloudy weather conditions are expected in most parts of the country. However, rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at scattered places in Quetta, Zhob, Kalat divisions, while at isolated places in D.G.Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Sahiwal, D.I.Khan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Kohat, Makran, Larkana, Sukkur divisions and Islamabad.
In the past 24 hours, the weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country. However, rain thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills occurred at a few places in Peshawar, Hazara, Rawalpindi divisions.

The minimum temperature recorded in the country was -07°C in Kalam, followed by -06°C in Astore, -04°C in Bagrote, -03°C in Hunza, Parachinar, Kalat, Malamjabba, Skardu, and Gupis, Rawalakot, and -01°C in Mirkhani.
It is noteworthy that at least 23 people lost their lives and 68 others got injured in rain related incidents in the current spell of heavy rains in several parts of the country, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
