    Five children dead in Lakki Marwat mortar shell explosion

    LAKKI MARWAT: At least five children killed, twelve other injured when a mortar shell exploded in the Serband area of Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ARY News reported.

    According to District Police Officer (DPO) Nazir Khan, the children had found the mortar shell on a nearby mountain and brought it home, mistaking it for a toy, which led to the blast.

    Rescue 1122 teams swiftly responded, transferring the injured and deceased to a local hospital for treatment and medico-legal formalities.

    Earlier, security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by Indian-sponsored militant group Fitna Al-Khawarij near the Pak-Afghan border, ARY News reported on Friday, quoting Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

    According to the ISPR, Indian-backed Fitna Al-Khwarij were killed during a decisive operation in Hassan Khel, North Waziristan.

    The security forces also recovered of a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials. The military’s swift response has once again demonstrated its readiness and resolve to counter cross-border terrorism.

    The statement reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to eliminating Indian-sponsored terrorism and highlighted that security forces remain fully prepared to confront any threats along the border.

    ISPR also called upon the interim Afghan government to prevent the use of Afghan soil for launching terrorist attacks against Pakistan, particularly by foreign-sponsored proxies.

    The statement urged that regional peace is only possible when such elements are denied safe haven.

    Peshawar: Mortar shell in scrape explodes, leave five dead

    PESHAWAR: At least five people were killed and one injured after a mortar shell exploded at Akbarpura in Nowshera district, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

    According to reports, a mortar shell in scrape went off in the area leaving five people dead and one injured.

    Five deceased in the blast have been identified as Shafqat, Mukarram, Ali, Zahidullah and Hidayatullh, officials said.

    District Police Officer (DPO) Najmul Hasnain and other police officers rushed to the spot and inspected the site of explosion.

    Police has collected evidence from the site of the incident, DPO Najmul Hasnain said.

    The mortar shell was found near the riverside at Akburpura, which exploded when being sold at the scrape shop, the DPO added.

    Akbarpura has been at around 13 miles distance from Peshawar and is part of Pabbi Tehsil of Nowshera District.

    Presence and explosions of mortar shells time and again reported in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which have claimed scores of lives in the region.

    PASRUR: A villager venturing out in the fields came across a 35 kilogram (kg) mortar shell on Thursday in the area of Kakhanwali, Punjab, ARY News reported.

    The bomb disposal squad was urgently called upon after the discovery, the squad has confiscated the dangerous weapon.

    The villager who discovered the dangerous shell was working in the fields when he came across the mortal which had apparently failed to explode, as intended.

    After a preliminary inquiry, the bomb disposal squad deduced that the mortar shell was ‘made in India.’

    Earlier on December 26, Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar had strongly condemned continued violations of line of control (LOC) by the Indian army.

    CM Usman Buzdar paid rich tribute to the Pakistan army for giving a befitting reply to the enemy.

    In a statement, the chief minister said that the Pakistan army has given a strong reply to the enemy by sending Indian army men to hell.

    Bahawalpur farmer killed in bomb explosion in field

    BAHAWALPUR: A farmer was killed and another sustained serious injuries when a bomb, hidden in the field, exploded in Bahawalpur on Sunday, ARY News reported.

    Police said that an unexploded mortar shell was hidden under the sand in the field where the farmers, Mubashar and Allah Ditta, were working. The officials said that bomb blew up when the farmers hit it with any tool.

    Police and rescue officials, after being in informed, rushed to the scene and shifted the body and the injured to the hospital.

    Bomb disposal squad also reached at the scene and launched investigations to ascertain the nature and intensity of the blast.

    Last year in November, three children had been killed while two others sustained injuries in a mortar shell explosion in Swat’s Matta Tehsil.

    As per details, the mortar had been exploded in the fields when the children belonging to the same family were playing there. As a result, three had been killed and two sustained injuries.

    The deceased and the injured had been moved to Matta’s medical facility. However, the authorities had  collected evidence from the scene of the incident and launched an investigation into the matter.
