FAISALABAD: Citizens and public servants irked by unfavorable budget staged a unique protest against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar here on Tuesday, ARY News reported.

The Federal Government has increased the allocation for the environment by 12.7% from 936 million for 2014-15 to Rs 1,055 billion for 2015-16.

Of every hundred rupees that the Federal Government will spend in 2015-16, more than a quarter, or Rs 28.75 to be precise, will go towards servicing its debt.

Interest in the budget every year runs high among the general public but few actually get down to reading it for themselves. This is important because it makes for more informed opinion on such a key policymaking document.

For those who have actively followed the PML-N led government’s recent initiatives and herculean attempts to revive Pakistan’s economy (after PPP did their utmost to reduce it to shambles), this budget will prove to be an effective one, mind you, if implemented in letter and spirit.

A glance at the figures for the Federal Budget 2015-16 announced this evening by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar suggests what you could call a 'mixed bag'.
