KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Saturday directed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and private airlines to come up with their respective reports in a case pertaining to appointment of pilots on fake qualification certificates.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, who headed a three-judge bench, gave this direction while hearing a suo motu case pertaining to appointment of pilots on the basis of fake qualifications.
At the outset, the CJP asked CAA officials who was responsible for verifying the certificates or degrees of pilots.
A CAA official replied that it was responsibility of private airlines to verify their credentials and qualification.
CJP Nisar directed the CAA, and private airlines to verify their degrees and submit a compliance report on next hearing.
The bench put off the hearing till February 01.
The chief justice on Friday took notice of alleged appointment of pilots having fake qualifications. He had directed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to submit a report within 24 hours in this regard.
Back in 2011, at least 14 pilots were dismissed when it was found that they were appointed on the basis of fake documents.
In 2011, 39 employees of the CAA had to lose their job because of their fake qualifications.
