Farmers seeking relief in Budget 2017-18 protest at Islamabad D-Chowk

ISLAMABAD: Hours before the announcement of Budget 2017-18, the Farmers’ Union registered a protest at Islamabad D Chowk area of the federal capital on Friday (today), ARY News reported.

Pakistan Kissan Ittehad – seeking relief in budget 2017-18 – attempted to enter the red zone of the federal capital.

The farmers were heard complaining over financial constraint. “We receive minimum of our hard work”, an enraged protester said.

Lamenting on government’s negligence, another farmer said that government has always disregarded farmers’ recommendations in budget. At least 20 protesters were detained by Police so far in a bid to enter the red zone of the federal capital.

Police have fired tear gas and unleashed water from a water canon to disperse the protesting farmers who were trying to reach the Parliament House.

Subsequently, the protesters pelted stone at police personnel. Frontier Constabulary has also been called in to aid the police.

Metro Bus service at Islamabad has been suspended amidst protests and uncertainty. The suspension of the service caused inconvenience for the commuters.
