Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Monday said relations between Pakistan and the United States are improving fast, Radio Pakistan reported.
While speaking to media personnel in Lahore, he said the recent meetings between Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi and US secretary of state Mike Pompeo have strengthened the cordial relations shared by the two countries.
Responding to a question pertaining to visa restrictions, the minister said the government is contemplating to ease visa restrictions for sixty six countries in order to promote tourism in the country.
“Amending laws governing affairs of the National Accountability Bureau is imperative for transparency,” added the information minister while speaking to private news channel. “Minister for Law Farogh Naseem met leaders of political parties to evolve a consensus in this regard.”
Further shedding light on the imports and exports of the country, Chaudhry said positive results yielded by the government’s efforts to increase exports and reduce imports.
Fawad’s comments came at a time when United States special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad is about to land in Islamabad.
Khalilzad will also hold delegation-level talks at the foreign office regarding the Afghan peace process, talks with the Taliban and the US troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Leading a delegation of officials in his four-nation two-week visit from January 8 – 21, including Pakistan, India, China and Afghanistan, Khalilzad will meet with senior government officials in each country during his visit to facilitate an intra-Afghan political settlement.
