ISLAMABAD: The authorities have decided to open spillways of Rawal Dam opened at 12:00 noon on Tuesday as the water level in the dam recorded at 1750.70 feet.

The monsoon rains have enhanced the water level of Rawal Dam reservoir, which hit 1750 feet in the morning today. The spillways of the reservoir will be opened under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner Nilore.

Rescue, security and medical teams have been deployed at key locations, including bridges, streams, and vulnerable points downstream, to manage the flow of released water and ensure public safety.

The district administration has stated that all concerned departments have been directed for quick response and coordination and prompt contact with the administration in an emergency situation.

The district authorities have advised to the public to stay away from drains and streams.

The Rawal Dam not only supplies water to Islamabad and Rawalpindi but also plays a critical role in managing seasonal rains. The management of the dam, along with weather monitoring, is part of the broader effort to mitigate risks of urban flooding in the twin cities during the monsoon season.
