Prosecutor General NAB resigns, Syed Asghar Haider

ISLAMABAD: Prosecutor General National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Justice (rtd) Syed Asghar Haider has tendered resignation from his office, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Prosecutor General NAB has send his resignation letter to the Chairman NAB. “He has resigned from his office owing to personal engagements,” sources said.

Mr Haider, a former judge of the Lahore High Court, was appointed NAB prosecutor general in January 2018 for a period of three years. The PTI government had granted an unprecedented extension of three years to Syed Asghar Haider in February 2021. His office term as Prosecutor General NAB would have completed by March 2024.

The investigation of 190 mln Pound scandal was completed during his tenure and a NAB reference was likely to be filed in current month.

The NAB could not file the reference without approval from the prosecutor general. The executive board’s session and approval of cases will also be in limbo without the prosecutor general.

The prosecutor general’s approval has also been compulsory for restoration of the cases after the NAB amended law.
