ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal on Monday heavily criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan for filling his cabinet with Musharraf-era ministers and not appointing a full time interior minister, ARY News reported.
Addressing a news conference in the federal capital, the PML-N stalwart maintained that Imran Khan criticised the PML-N government for not appointing a full time foreign minister for four years but now has done a “bigger crime” of not appointing an interior minister and keeping the ministry with himself.
“Pakistan needs a full time interior minister to oversee the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism and to implement the workplan advised by Financial Action Task Force (FATF) by taking provincial governments on board,” said Ahsan Iqbal.
He added that even if Imran Khan wants to supervise the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) activities, keeping interior ministry is not advisable as prime minister has the power to oversee activities of any department.
He maintained that Imran Khan promised a lot during his election campaign and made all his followers believe in new country or “Naya Pakistan” but when his federal cabinet was announced, it consisted of Musharraf-era team.
“He promised a new Pakistan but opted for the Musharraf-era team to achieve his desired goals,” said Iqbal.
Iqbal was of the view that Imran Khan’s Sunday speech was just a repeat of his election promises and the nation is now looking towards him for implementation of his “ambitious” plan.
