The motorway will open up new opportunties for the residents of the area by providing them faster access to bigger markets, government sources said. It will reduce cost and time of travel from textile hub Faisalabad to Multan, a major trade center in Southern Punjab.
The 62 kilometers section of the motorway will help in upgrading the country’s overburdened transport infrastructure.
The 58 KM ‘Faisalabad-Gojra’ section of the motorway has already been completed with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank and functional since March this year.
The motorway will upgrade country’s vital north-south road network for promotion of economic growth, job creation and regional connectivity, officials said.
Sharif said that engineers had initially estimated a cost of Rs21 billion for this section of the motorway but the project will now be completed with Rs 17 billion.
Talking on Karachi-Lahore motorway, the the prime minister said that the people of Karachi and Lahore will be connected through motorways.
He said that transparency in these projects had helped save billions of rupees.
