PM to chair federal cabinet meeting today

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will preside over a meeting of the federal capital today (Thursday) in Islamabad.

The cabinet will meet at the PM House at 11:00am to discuss a host of issues. It will likely give the go-ahead to an agreement to be signed with Palestine for cooperation in the health sector.

The appointment of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) chairman and its members also figures on today’s agenda of the huddle. Besides, a grant for the loss-making entity, Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), will also be approved by the cabinet.

The federal cabinet will also approve a special grant of Rs50 million for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

On Dec 26, the prime minister presided over a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy in Islamabad during which he emphasized the need for timely and accurate estimations about demand and supply in the energy sector to avoid any interruption in energy supply.

PM Khan also issued directives for finalising the policy on renewable energy by the end of January next year. He directed that a detailed plan in consultation with refineries regarding up gradation of existing facilities and export of surplus furnace oil should be worked out on priority.

The meeting decided to immediately notify ban on any further import of furnace oil. It further decided that a detailed plan would be worked out to ensure optimal utilization of Refined Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) terminals.

It was also decided that the Economic Coordination Committee will be briefed, in its next meeting, about the availability of urea stocks in the country and its pricing.
