PFA seals eleven sweetmeat shops ahead of Eid

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority continued its crackdown on unhygienic and unhealthy sweetmeats and cakes ahead of the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, ARY News reported. 

DG Operations Rafia Haider said the eleven famous sweetmeat shops have been sealed across the province in several cities including Lahore, Multan, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.

She said a hefty fine of 1.2 million rupees has been imposed on another eleven shops. She warned that they have given a day to improve their standards or they would be sealed as well.

Directer General Noorul Amin Mengal sealed the production unit of bakery in Lahore for having expired ingredients, and disposed over four maunds of expired Khoya. Another renowned bakery was raided where eighteen maunds of expired sweetmeats and over 21 maunds of ingredients were seized and disposed.

 

The PFA had vowed to carry the campaign across the holy month of Ramazan. The authority on Thursday sealed the production units of two sweetmeat shops in Rawalpindi and one in Lahore.
