QUETTA: A parliamentary committee on Wednesday failed to evolve consensus on a name for the post of the caretaker chief minister of Balochistan and recommended forwarding the matter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for a final decision.
A meeting of the committee was held in the provincial capital today which remained inconclusive as the government representatives didn’t turn up.
Out of a total six members, only three opposition members -Sanaullah Zehri, Abdul Malik Baloch and Syed Liaqat Agha – attended the meeting.
Whereas, the government representatives – Tahir Mehmood, Sardarzada Mir Sarfaraz Khan Domki and Amanullah Notezai – were conspicuous by their absence.
A day earlier, the government announced that their representatives would boycott the meeting.
The committee was formed after Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and opposition leader Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal failed to pick a consensus name for the post of the interim chief minister.
It has three days to decide on one person from two each from the government and opposition for the slot.
If the committee fails to make a decision in this regard, the matter will finally have to be referred to the ECP.
The government has forwarded the names of Sardar Shaukat Aziz Popalzai and Allauddin Marri, while the opposition has nominated Aslam Bhootani and Jahangir Ashraf Qazi for the slot.
