Pakistan can generate 2.9m MW solar energy: Punjab industries minister

LAHORE: Punjab Industries, Commerce and Investment Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal on Thursday said Pakistan had the potential to generate 2.9 million megawatts of solar energy, 0.34 million megawatts wind energy and 0.1 million megawatts hydropower energy per year.

He said this while speaking at ‘International Exhibition for Renewable Energy’, a three-day mega solar power show organised by the FAKT Exhibitions in Lahore. FAKT Exhibitions Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Saleem Khan Tanoli and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Almas Haider were also present on this occasion.

The provincial minister said the renewable energy would bring manifold benefits to the national economy by reducing the cost of doing business, promoting industrialization, encouraging investment, creating plenty of new jobs and enhancing exports.

He said a blend of indigenous renewable power generation and storage technology seemed to be a cost-efficient answer for current need. He also lauded efforts of the organizers of the event.

On this occasion, Saleem Khan Tanoli said that over 100 exhibitors had displayed their products from over 10 countries, including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Germany, Korea, Italy, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Thailand, Taiwan, and the USA.

The FAKT Exhibitions CEO said the exhibition had provided the cutting-edge technology and equipment used in the solar industry.
