Pakistan’s first woman envoy to Iran takes charge

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador Riffat Masood presented her credentials to Iran’s Foreign Minister Jawad Zareef, becoming Pakistan’s first woman envoy to Iran.

Riffat Masood is a career diplomat with wide experience of diplomacy and having fluency in Persian language. She last served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Norway.

In July 1987 she had joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan. She was section officer in the ministry of Foreign Affairs and served on the post from 1988 to 1991.

She also had various diplomatic assignments in the country’s missions in United Kingdom, the United States, Turkey and France.

In 2014-15, she served as Director General (Policy Planning), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 2013-2014 she was the Director General (South Asia), Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ms Riffat was also the Consul General at Consulate General of Pakistan, Los Angeles, USA from 2010to 2013, From 2006 to 2010 she served as the Deputy High Commissioner, Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi, India.
