ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified that the top officers of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will get salaries and perks equivalent to the Supreme Court (SC) and the high court judges, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Law and Justice unveiled details of the appointments on the NAB top slots. A notification stated that the salary and perks of the NAB prosecutor general would be equivalent to an SC judge.
However, the law ministry set a condition to seek permission from the finance ministry regarding the salaries and perks of the prosecutor general.
It read that the finance ministry would seek approval from the caretaker cabinet regarding the salaries and perks.
Moreover, the law ministry also recommended fixing the NAB deputy chairman’s salary and perks equivalent to a high court judge.
The caretaker government had appointed Ihtisham Qadir Shah as the NAB prosecutor general and the former Lahore High Court (LHC) judge Sohail Nasir as the bureau’s deputy chairman on October 11.
In March, the federal government had appointed Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmad as the new chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The development came days after Aftab Sultan resigned as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman citing personal reasons.
Sources revealed that Aftab Sultan resigned from his office after “he was asked to do certain things which were not acceptable to him.”
Sources further disclosed that Sultan had some reservations over the National Accountability (Amendment) Act, 2022 which has limited the anti-corruption watchdog’s powers.
