Human Rights minister Shireen Mazari recently shared her personal observation of rendition of Pakistan’s iconic song of the yesteryears ‘Ko Ko Korina’ by Momina Mustehsan and called it ‘horrendous’, but it looked as if Mustehsan was quite disgruntled with the PTI leader’s remarks and she decided to tweet out her fury, thus triggering an unlikely debate!
It all started when Ms Mazari, obviously in her personal capacity, didn’t like the song and brusquely expressed her sentiments, like many others, on Twitter and wrote: Horrendous! Destroyed a great classic – why oh why did Coke Studio allow such a massacre of this classic song?”
Momina Mustehsan a day later decided to respond in failed attempt of politeness. Here’s what she retorted: “Apologies for hurting ur sentiments. It is ur right to judge us & express ur outrage, just like it was our right to exercise our #FreedomOfExpression. As our Minister of #HumanRights, u should appreciate @cokestudio for allowing us to express ourselves, esp if it was horrendous :)”
Since Ms Mazari had shared her observation being a music lover and not in any professional capacity, she came up with a clarification, stating: “I gave my personal opinion which I am entitled to esp on a non pol issue having to do with music. To each his/her own! And why bring the ministry into it?!”
The silence ensued after the minister ‘ended’ the story with her last response insisting it was her personal opinion and it had nothing to do with the ministry, however Twitterati were quick to chip in with their own humour to add fuel to the fire 😉
Momina is right, you represent all of us.
NONE of us liked the song. Yup ! 😂— Farah (@BillieJien) October 22, 2018
@MominaMustehsan , Minister @ShireenMazari1 wasn’t bullying you in any way. She was just expressing her views about the song like the rest of the public. There was no need to get sensitive. As a celeb, you must tolerate criticism. Plus, there was no need to drag her ministry.

I m not hater. Singers should do work and discover new things instead of destroying old classics.

Momina I am huge fan of your voice specially when you are not singing.
Stay Strong 😍

Apparently, taking criticism with grace is too much to ask

If you expect her to respect your freedom of expression then please do the same. Don’t misinterpret it with cyberbullying

Madam the ministers are also people and they express their opinions, likes and dislikes just like any normal citizen

Oops…
You can tweet about “massacre” of a song but can’t tweet about massacre of millions of Yemeni people? This is unbecoming of a Minister of Human Rights. Please do the right thing and raise your voice for #Yemen.
