LAHORE: A medical board has been constituted on directives of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to conduct clinical examination of former chief minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The board was constituted following the request of Sharif’s wife Tehmina Durrani to the accountability watchdog.

Vice Chancellor of Fatima Medical University will be the head of the medical board. Other members of the team include Dr Kamran Khalid Khwaja, Prof. Dr. Farrukh Kamal, Prof. Dr. Bilquees Shabbir, Dr. Khizar Gondal, Dr. Muhammad Adnan Hashim.

Tehmina Durrani had complained on Dec 2 regarding the delay in formation of a larger medical board for her incarcerated husband Shehbaz Sharif.

“As he is a cancer survivor, pet scans & blood tests were regularly conducted by his Dr [doctor] in Lon [London],” she said. Being concerned about the tests of Shehbaz conducted in Islamabad, Ms Tehmina said, they “showed some abnormal signs.”

The wife of leader of opposition in National Assembly, inquired with fury, “A board of Drs [doctors] was to be constituted to check them. That has still not happened. WHY?”

The PML-N leader, who is currently under the custody of NAB, underwent medical examination at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on November 27.

During the check-up, the CT scan reports of the PML-N leader were reviewed and it was discovered that his intestines and glands were swelled. Further, the doctors recommended that a larger medical board be formed comprising cancer experts to examine Shehbaz.

The National Accountability Bureau on Oct 5 arrested Shehbaz Sharif inside its Lahore office where he was summoned to record his statement in connection with the Punjab Saaf Pani Company case.
