Mayor expresses resolve to bring Karachi to its original shape

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on Sunday expressed resolve to bring the metropolis city into its original shape and announced to clear all encroachments on Railways land in the city to revive the Karachi Circular Railways (KCR).      

Talking to journalists, Waseem Akhtar said they were devising strategy in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and concerned departments to evacuate the land from the encroachers and to clear all the railway tracks.

“It is our collective responsibility to remove encroachments and clear the rail tracks,” he said and added that an anti-encroachment operation will be launched soon for the revival of KCR.

Whereas Karachi commissioner also visited Maripur Road, Wazir Mansion, Shah Latif Town and SITE areas to review the situation of illegal constructions on the rail track.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Supreme Court, on November 17, had directed the authorities concerned to immediately revive the Karachi Circular Railway.

The direction came during a meeting chaired by Justice Gulzar Ahmed at the apex court’s Karachi registry. He directed the civic authorities to clear all railway tracks across the city of encroachments.

The Deputy Superintendent of the Pakistan Railways had informed that railway tracks in various areas of the city had been encroached upon. The top court judge had directed the deputy commissioners to remove encroachments from the railway tracks.
