Did King Charles’ message comfort Joe Biden in a dark time?

King Charles has sent a personal message to Joe Biden after it was revealed the former US president has an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles, who is also receiving treatment for cancer, wrote privately to Joe Biden earlier today.

The 76-year-old monarch has known Joe Biden for years. Their most recent meeting was in July 2023 when King Charles welcomed the American leader for tea and discussions at Windsor Castle.

At the time, a royal spokesperson said the relationship between King Charles and Joe Biden was “extremely cordial”.

Joe Biden was diagnosed on Friday. Tests showed the cancer had spread to his bones. Earlier today, he shared his first message on social media since the announcement. He said, “Cancer touches us all.

Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

King Charles is understood to have sent his good wishes after hearing the news. The monarch, who became King after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, has spoken openly about the importance of kindness and strength during illness.

His gesture has been seen as heartfelt support from one leader to another facing health challenges.

King Charles and Biden have met on a number of occasions. In 2021, when Charles was still Prince of Wales, the two men held a meeting during the COP26 summit in Glasgow. Joe Biden also attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.

This latest message from King Charles shows the continued bond between the Royal Family and the United States, especially during difficult personal times.

Earlier, Former US president Joe Biden was diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer and was reviewing treatment options, a statement from his office said Sunday.

On Friday the 82-year-old Democrat was “diagnosed with prostate cancer … with metastasis to the bone,” the statement said.
