KARACHI: Reacting over an attack on Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Ali Muhammad Mahar, Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi Division President Khurram Sher Zaman on Tuesday said its Sindh government responsibility to provide security to the elected representatives.

Speaking to journalists after inquiring about health of Mahar in Karachi, the PTI leader said law and order situation is worsening with every passing day in Sindh and the urged the provincial government to take strict measures.

“PPP government is answerable over the law and order situation in the province”, Khurram Sher Zaman said.

He said around six to seven people barged into the house of Ali Muhammad Mahar and injured him.

On the other hand, MPA, Muhammad Shaharyar Khan Mahar, confirmed that the incident seemed to be an attempted robbery.

“Mr Mahar had sustained non-serious wounds in resistance during the robbery,” he said.

Former chief minister of Sindh Ali Muhammad Mahar was wounded by suspected robbers, who stormed his house in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) late on Monday.

According to police, six armed men forced their way into the house of the former chief minister and injured him with the butt of a gun when he tried to stop them. As a result, he suffered head injuries.

A police official said the armed men broke into Mahar’s residence by scaling its wall and asked about his servant named Yaseen. They held the family members hostage at gunpoint and also went into the former chief minister’s room, he added.
