LAHORE: Alluding to petitions against Election Act 2017, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Friday said the minus-one formula is not acceptable to the masses.
In a series of tweets on his official Twitter account, Rafique warned against undermining the democracy, parliament and ‘court contempt’.
“People have rejected an approach of minus-one formula again and again,” he tweeted.

He maintained that the confrontation between institutions has been weakening the state as whole.
“Mutual confrontations [between politicians/institutions] have been inflicting damages to the state,” he said.
Coming on disqualification of lawmakers, he alleged that all Prime Ministers were removed on similar allegations in an impudent way. “Political parties are to make political decisions,” he added.
Taking guns on dictators and judges, the minister asked as why the cases were not filed against those responsible for declaring martial law and giving verdicts under the doctrine of necessity.

“Why did the Article 6 (of constitution) not applied on individuals declared martial laws and those justified dictatorships under the law of necessity?” he queried.
He said the dishonest in disguise as virtuous people are found everywhere but only the politicians are targeted.
“We do not accept immoral remarks,” he asserted, adding, the people passing ‘Fatwas’ (decrees) should first prove their recognized trustworthiness and honesty.

Rafique made these remarks a day after the ousted premier Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said the judges, who allegedly pledged their allegiance to the dictators, wanted to remove him as the ruling party president.
Talking to press, Sharif raged at judiciary one more time and said the judges who took oath under Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) were giving lessons on the morality and virtue.
“I was first disqualified to hold a public office and now they [judges] want to remove me from the party presidency,” he then asserted.
He made these remarks at a time when the Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken up a case against Sharif’s re-election as the ruling party’s president following the ouster.
