KARACHI: Residents of the provincial capital reeling under very hot and dry weather may have to suffer the load-shedding of up to 12-14 hours for another 10 days as K-Electric’s Bin Qasim Power plant that had developed a technical fault is unlikely to be made operational by May 20.

Many areas of the metropolis have been experiencing the load-shedding lasting up to 12 to 14 hours a day while the suburban areas facing power cuts of up to 16 hours.

Power blackouts are likely to continue during the first week of the fasting month of Ramazan.

Earlier, a spokesperson of the power utility has said that the plant repairing will be completed by May 20. KE has forwarded a request to the federal government to provide extra 150MW of electricity until the fault is repaired completely, but to no avail.
