Govt committed to developing eco-friendly tourism: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday renewed his government’s commitment to work towards developing eco-friendly tourism in the country.

Sharing two pictures, one showing people strolling along the beach at twilight and the other showing snow-capped peaks in the northern areas of the country, the prime minister on his official twitter account wrote: “From our beaches in the south to Fairy Meadows in the north, and the rich history of our Land, Pakistan has unlimited potential for developing eco-friendly tourism.”

“This is a commitment we are determined to fulfill InshaAllah,” he said.

Last week, the prime minister emphasized on the need to incentivize and facilitate the tourism sector while removing all bottlenecks and hurdles impeding the promotion of tourism in the country.

Presiding over a meeting of the National Task Force on Tourism, he directed that environmental protection and cultural preservation be ensured while undertaking tourism related projects in the country.

According to a statement released by the ministry, he stressed to bring tourism to the center stage of the development process by ensuring that development proposals of other sectors are seamlessly fed into the development of tourism potential of provinces.

The prime minister directed that a framework be developed under public-private partnership specially to attract foreign and local investment in large scale tourism related projects in the country. He emphasized that relevant tourism departments should develop their tourism policies and plans in accordance with international practices of sustainable tourism to ensure the sustainability of environment, local economy and cultural norms.
