KARACHI: Federal Minister for Narcotics Control and former chief minister of Sindh Ali Muhammad Mahar was wounded by suspected robbers, who stormed his house in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) late on Monday, ARY News reported.
According to police, six armed men forced their way into the house of the former chief minister and injured him with the butt of a gun when he tried to stop them.
Mahar sustained head injuries and was shifted to a local hospital for treatment. The police, citing initial investigation, said it is a robbery case.
A police official said the armed men broke into Mahar’s residence by scaling its wall and asked about his servant named Yaseen. They held the family members hostage at gunpoint and also went into the former chief minister’s room, he added.
The official, however, said the armed men didn’t resort to firing, adding they had also come to Mahar’s residence a day before the incident. More details will come to the fore once the federal minister records his statement, he added.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Sindh police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam, while taking notice of the incident, sought a report from the deputy inspector general (DIG) South.
Mahar is currently associated with the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), which is part of the ruling coalition.
