Former PPP Karachi’s vice president detained over terror links

KARACHI: The security and intelligence agencies have taken into custody former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Karachi president Habib Hassan over his alleged links with terrorists.

Sources said the PPP leader was arrested from Lyari’s Singoo Lane area following information about his alleged involvement in facilitating terrorists associated with Lyari gang war.

Hassan, who is also the chairman of DMC South’s UC-12, was taken into custody in the light of revelations made by Uzair Baloch, a notorious leader of Lyari gang war.

The spy agencies have shifted him to an unidentified place for interrogation.

Dr Asim Hussain, PPP Karachi president and close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari, PPP’s Qadir Patel, Mayor Waseem Akhtar and Rauf Siddiqui of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Anis Qaim Khani of Pak Sarzameen Party have already been facing charges of sheltering and facilitating terrorists.

Police had registered the case on the complaint of Sindh Rangers officer against Dr Asim for treating and harbouring terrorists associated with MQM and Lyari gang war at his hospitals. He was alleged to have done all this on the instructions from other co-accused.
