Flooding in rivers at various points in Punjab: PDMA

LAHORE: An upsurge in water level reported in rivers in Punjab after heavy monsoon rains and glacier melting, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab said on Saturday.

Indus River has been reported in medium flood at Tarbela, Kalabagh and Chashma barrages and in low flood levvel at Taunsa Barrage, according to the Flood Forecasting Division.

Sutlej River has been in low flood at Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki and Chenab has been medium flood at Khanki and Marala headworks and low flood level at Qadirabad.

Moreover, Ravi has been low flood at Balloki headworks.

Tarbela reservoir has been filled up to 1546.50 feet, which is 96.49% of total 1550 capacity of the dam.

While Mangla Dam has been filled up to 1209.35 feet, which is 66.81% of its total reservoir capacity of 1242 feet.

Director General PDMA has asked general public to cooperate with the administration in the case of emergency situation which requires evacuation.

PDMA Punjab has also advised people to stay away from swimming in rivers, canals and other water bodies during emergency situation.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported that cloud bursts and flash floods over the past 48 hours have claimed 307 lives and injured 23 people across the province.

According to the PDMA, the fatalities include 279 men, 15 women and 13 children, while the injured comprise 17 men, 4 women, and 2 children.
