KARACHI: Despite fierce stormy winds in the city, the flight operations at the Karachi airport on Monday are underway as per routine, said the spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

“Preventive steps in connection with the weather warning have already been ensured”, the spokesperson said.

According to the CAA, all the stakeholders were informed after the weather warning issued for Karachi following the intense dust storm.

The staff is fully capable and ready to face any eventuality at the airport, the CAA spokesman continued in his statement.

However, in order to ensure safety of the smaller planes, they are being parked in the hangar.

An intense dust storm hit the metropolis Sunday night and continued Monday morning, dispersing sand around the city, downing trees and blowing away roofs in some areas.

K-Electric’s high-tension power transmission line tripped, suspending electricity supply to the linked grid stations. As a result, many areas, including North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Sarjani Town, and Nusrat Bhutto Colony, plunged into darkness.

Shah Faisal Colony, Azizabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and other areas also faced power blackout after the strong winds began sweeping across the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rains along with dust and thunderstorm in the city today (Monday).
