Addressing a press conference here, the interior minister said that there were 31 cases against Aziz during the tenure of PPP and he was acquitted in eight of them. He claimed that the verdict against the cleric was not challenged.
The minister said that he had stopped Maulana Aziz for adminstering Friday sermon.
“Who appointed Maulana Abdul Aziz’s nephew as khateeb of Lal Masjid? Who provided them police cars and government vehicles”, Nisar asked.
“They were former army chief Pervez Musharraf and PPP’s supporters”, Nisar added.
He went on to say that action would be taken against the cleric if he violates the law.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a Middle Eastern and North African organization that is fighting for its survival against world powers.
“The hierarchy of Islamic State does not exist in Pakistan”, the minister stated.
The interior minister added that 45 banned outfits are currently operating in Pakistan in some capacity and they are using the name of ISIS.
These banned groups are being hunted down by the intelligence agencies, Nisar stated.
