Dialogue a priority to pursue peace efforts: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has stated that committees [of the government and the Taliban] will continue playing their role in negotiations, said an official government statement issued on Thursday.

The statement was issued after a meeting presided over by Nawaz Sharif between the government high-ups and Taliban-nominated committee for peace talks, ARY News reported.

Prime minister said holding dialogues with seriousness will be a priority to pursue peace efforts. He said consultation with both the committees will pay vital role for negotiations in the next phase. He added that bringing to a halt the ongoing bloodshed was his constitutional and national duty.

The prime minister said he would not spare any effort to restore peace in the country.

The Taliban committee side was led by Maulana Sami-ul-Haq during the meeting. Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan was also present.
