CJP takes notice of torture of minor by cleric in Shaikhupura

SHAIKHUPURA: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo motu cognizance of brutal torture of a 10-year old boy, Zohaib, at the hands of a cleric in Sheikhupura district of Punjab. 

The chief justice has issued notice to the Divisional Police Officer Sheikhupura to appear before the Supreme Court on Tuesday (tomorrow) along with officials of the police station concerned.

Reports say a prayer leader of a mosque within the remits of Saddar police station brutally beat a minor up over the allegations that he stole money from the mosque.

Afterwards, the victim boy’s father approached the police station concerned to register an FIR against the cleric but to no avail.

The DPO Shaikhupura and other police officials are required to turn up before the apex court on August 7 to submit their respective reports in this regard.
