Buzdar gives compensation cheque to family of kite string victim

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar on Thursday met family of a citizen who was killed by a kite string, ARY News reported.

CM Buzdar expressed his condolences to Muhammad Waqas’s family and gave them a compensation cheque of Rs 500,000. He also announced to give brother of the deceased man a government job.

He said the affected family will also be given a house in the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme.

On the occasion, he directed officials concerned to ensure strict implementation on kite-flying ban.

He ordered the authorities to launch crackdown on those manufacturing chemical string for kites. The deceased was a student at a college in Faisalabad and would moonlight as rickshaw driver to meet his financial expenses. A station house officer was also suspended after reports of the boy’s death came to light.

Waqas was riding a motorcycle when a kite string allegedly slit his throat on Rehmania Road on Feb 11. Mohammad Waqas of Khalidabad died after a stray kite string slit his throat in Rehmania Colony.

The Rescue 1122 personnel shifted the youth to Allied hospital but he could not survive.

The Rescue 1122 earlier said the youth was killed as a string slit his throat. Later, it withdrew the statement and said some ‘unknown’ thing cut his throat.
