ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to increase tax on imported mobile phones in the upcoming budget 2024-25, ARY News reported on Monday.
According to sources, prices of imported mobile phones are expected to increase as the FBR has proposed to impose Federal Excise Duty (FED).
Additionally, FBR has also proposed to increase regulatory duty and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tax on imported luxury mobile phones in the upcoming budget.
In a separate development, the federal government announced a record increase in the budget allocation for education.
The Planning Commission announced that the education sector has been allocated a staggering Rs 20.25 billion for the budget 2024-25.

It is pertinent to mention here that the budget 2024-25 which was earlier scheduled to be presented on June 10 is now likely to be presented on June 12.
The Pakistan Economic Survey 2023-24 will be presented on June 11 after a meeting of the council on June 10, the sources said.
