Bahauddin Zakariya Express derails near Mehrabpur

SUKKUR: A Punjab bound passenger train derailed near Mehrabpur railway station late on Wednesday, ARY News reported.

According to Railways officials, Bahauddin Zakariya Express which was on its way from Karachi to Multan derailed when its brakes failed after its engine developed a fault. So far, no casualties have been reported.

A station master said the train was to stop at Mehrabpur station after leaving Daur station. He said fortunately, the train derailment didn’t result in any loss of life as railway traffic remained suspended on the affected rail track for a brief period.

A relief train arrived at the spot of the incident from Padidan and put the train back on the track.

Earlier, on April 1, eight bogies of a freight train had derailed near Chak 75/P, Rahim Yar Khan, suspending railway traffic on both railway tracks for more than 30 hours.

The goods train loaded with containers was on its way to Karachi from Lahore. The train derailed between Dari Azeem Khan and Taranda Sawaye Khan railway stations at 3:30pm.
