    ECP serves notice to Faryal Talpur in disqualification case

    ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday issued a notice to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MPA Faryal Talpur on a petition seeking her disqualification as member of the Sindh Assembly, ARY News reported

    Talpur is accused of concealing details of her assets in her tax returns details that were filed in the ECP.

    The notice was served on the plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Arsalan Taj and Rabia Azfar. The ECP has asked the PPP leader to file her response on December 9.

    Speaking to journalists, after the hearing of the plea, Arslan Taj said the PPP stalwart had not disclosed the details of her assets in her tax returns filed in the ECP, while a plea over holding an Iqama is also under trial in the Islamabad High Court against her.

    Holding Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani responsible for the late in the case, Mr. Taj alleged that he is not impartial and acting as a spokesman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

    Earlier, Arsalan Taj had submitted a reference to the speaker, stating the PPP MPA had not declared her three properties in her nomination papers, requesting him to act against the lawmaker under article 62 (f) of the constitution of Pakistan.

    Faryal Talpur had not declared her three residences, one in Larkana and two in Shahdadkot during the filing of nomination papers in ECP, he had added.

    It may be noted that Faryal Talpur is currently in the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over her alleged involvement in the fake bank accounts case.

    Maulana Fazl likely to extend two-day ultimatum

    ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) chief Fazal-ur- Rehman is likely to extend the two-day deadline for Prime Minister Imran Khan to step down, ARY News reported on Sunday, citing sources.

    As per details, the government’s negotiation committee member and Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi telephoned Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and urged to sort out the issue with dialogues.

    Sources said the PML-Q leader, who is a member of the government’s negotiation committee, urged the JUI-F chief to find an amicable solution to all issues. Elahi said they are ready for all possible cooperation for peaceful resolution of the matter.

    The sources said Maulana Fazl also hinted at a positive development in the telephonic conversation with the PML-Q leader.

    It must be noted that JUI-F chief Fazal-ur- Rehman on Friday had given the prime minister two-day ultimatum to resign.

    ‘Opposition not to march towards D-Chowk’

    Earlier, on Nov 2, Maulana Fazal had said the opposition had no plan to march towards D-Chowk.

    “The participants of Azadi March want to march towards D-Chowk, but heading towards D-chowk is not our destination,” said JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, while addressing participants of Azadi March in Islamabad.

    The JUI-F chief said that opposition was still implementing the agreement signed with the government’s negotiation committee, but govt has breached the agreement by blocking roads.

    ‘PPP cannot participate in JUI-F’s sit-in’

    Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had made an announcement that his political party will not take part in the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) led sit-in in the federal capital Islamabad.

    Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, while talking to journalists outside Bahawal Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur after meeting Tezgam inferno victims, said that PPP has given its stance on the very first day for not participating in any sit-in.

    He said that the demands of his political parties are the same with other opposition parties but PPP could not favour a sit-in. The PPP chairman, however, said that the decision could be reviewed if the party’s central executive committee would take any decision.

    ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Saturday decided against joining Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal’s (JUI-F) sit-in, ARY News reported, citing sources.

    Both the PPP and PML-N were invited by JUI-F chief Fazal-ur-Rehman to attend Islamabad’s sit-in, but both the parties decided not to join the sit-in and also informed about their decision to the JUI-F leadership.

    According to the sources within the PML-N, the party attended the Azadi March rally, but has never directed the workers to attend sit-in.

    “PML-N will not attend the sit-in for indefinite period”, the sources said.

    It may be noted that, the JUI-F leadership had invited both the parties to join their sit-in, to which both the parties had agreed to support the sit-in.

    Addressing the participants of the Azadi March in Islamabad on Friday (yesterday), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) chief Fazal-ur- Rehman blasted the PTI government and gave the prime minister a two-day ultimatum to step down.

    He had said his party and the people cannot endure this government’s policies, so either PM Khan should resign from his post within two days or he will announce a future strategy.

    ISLAMABAD: The opposition party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), has consituted a committee for holding talks with the government’s dialogue team, ARY News reported.

    The JUI-F’s committee members include Akram Durrani, Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Talha Mehmood and Ataur Rehman which would meet the government’s dialogue team at 8:00 pm today.

    The upcoming meeting will be held at the residence of Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, sources said.

    Defence Minister Pervez Khattak will lead the government’s committee which is comprised of members including Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser, Shafqat Mahmood, Noorul Haq Qadri, Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elhai and NA legislator Asad Umar.

    It may be noted here that the high-powered committee entrusted with the task of holding dialogue with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) had made its first formal contact on Saturday (yesterday).

    Sources said Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani held a telephonic conversation with JUI-F leader Abdul Ghafoor Haideri.

    The committee led by Federal Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak will meet the JUI-F leader at 8pm tomorrow at his residence at the Parliament Lodges.

    In a statement following the telephonic conversation, Haideri said they are ready to hold talks with the committee if it visits them for the purpose. He said they will see how far the government listens to their demands.

    On October 3, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had announced that the “Azadi March” will begin on October 27 after staging protest demonstration to express solidarity with the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir.

    Tribal districts’ elections: ECP issues notification of successful candidates

    ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday issued notification of successful candidates in recent tribal elections for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the merged tribal districts.

    According to the notification issued by Pakistan’s prime electoral body, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Anwar Zaib Khan has been declared as the winner from PK-100 Bajaur –I.

    PTI’s Aimal Khan secured the seat of PK-101 Bajaur. On PK-102 Bajaur-III, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) candidate Sirajuddin was declared successful with 19,088 votes.

    According to the notification ANP candidate, Nisar Ahmed was declared a winner from PK-103 Mohmand-I. Independent candidate Malik Abbas-ur-Rehman was declared the winner on PK-104 Mohmand-II.

    Citing the notification of PK-105 Khyber-I constituency, the independent candidate Shafiq Afridi has been declared successful. Bilawal Afridi, another independent candidate won PK-106 seat Khyber-2.

    Independent candidate Muhammad Shafiq won the PK-107 Khyber 3. JUI-F’s candidate Muhammad Riyaz grabbed PK-108 Kurram-I seat of the provincial assembly.

    On PK-109 Kurram-II, PTI candidate Iqbal Syed Mian was declared winner and seat of the provincial assembly, PK-110 Orakzai was won by Independent candidate Syed Ghazi Ghazan Jamal.

    PTI candidate Muhammad Iqbal Khan has been declared successful from PK-111 seat. Independent candidate Mir Kalam Khan grabbed 12,057 votes to secure PK-112 seat of the provincial assembly.

    On PK-113 South Waziristan, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl’s (JUI-F) Moulana Assam Uddin was declared the winner. PK-114 seat was bagged by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Naseer Ullah Khan.

    Meanwhile, the result of PK-116 has been withheld as the returning officer has ordered re polling on the several polling stations.

    The ECP has advised the independent candidates to join any of the political party till August 3 and inform the body in this regard.

    ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties on Tuesday submitted a resolution against Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani in the Senate Secretariat, ARY News reported.

    The resolution submitted by the opposition parties is signed by 38 senators, while a resolution to requisite the session of the upper house of the Parliament, was also submitted.

    According to the rules, the session should be called within seven days after the submission of the session requisition.

    “Sadiq Sanjrani will be asked to step down from the Senate chairmanship”, the sources said, else no-confidence move will be tabled against him.

    The 11-member opposition’s anti-government Rahbar Committee had announced consensus to remove the chairman Senate.

    On Monday, Leader of Opposition in Senate Raja Zafar ul Haq held meeting with National Party’s Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo to discuss opposition parties’ strategy with regard to no-confidence move against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

    Opposition parties’ Rehbar Committee will decide the candidate in its session on July 11, he said.

    The recently formed committee is made up of nine opposition parties and held its first meeting in Islamabad. In the first meeting, it took an oath of confidentiality and formulated a policy to run anti-government movement.

    ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties Rehbar Committee meeting is underway in Islamabad, to chalk out the strategy for chairman Senate’s removal, ARY News reported on Friday.

    The meeting is being chaired by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Akram Khan Durrani.

    The Rahbar Committee which comprises 11 members of the opposition is mulling over anti-government movement and other issues during the meeting.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is being represented by former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal and Ex-premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi whereas, from PPP, Nayyar Bukhari and Yousaf Raza Gillani are taking part in the meeting.

    National Party’s Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s Usman Kakar, Qaumi Watan Party’s Hashim Babar, ANP’s Mian Iftikhar, Markazi Jamiat-e-Ahle-e-Hadees’s Shafiq Pasrori and Owais Noorani from Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan are also attending the meeting.

    Sources said that PPP will propose former prime minister Gillani’s name upfront for Rehbar Committee’s convener ship whereas PML-N will propose Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s name.

    Earlier on June 26, the opposition’s all parties conference (APC) had witnessed serious disagreement among its ranks when the members reportedly discouraged demands of collective resignation from the National Assembly.

    ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) earlier today released the asset details of sitting senators along with those of Senate Chairman and Deputy Chairman, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

    The asset details of current senators were decalred in an official notification with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Azam Swati taking the top spot as the richest senator with assets worth Rs 1.85 billion.

    Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) senator Pervaiz Rasheed had the least amount of asset worth with Rs 2.3 million worth of declared assets.

    Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani’s asset worth was declared to be Rs 1800 million rupees.

    Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stalwart, Saleem Mandviwala who is also the deputy senate chairman holds assets worth Rs 1246 million with Rs 1.7 million in unpaid credit on his credit card.

    PPP’s Sherry Rehman’s asset details revealed her owned estates worth Rs 2566 million, the report also revealed 190 tola gold owned by the senator.

    JUI-F chief rejects postponement of APC, insists on opposition’s resignations

    ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rehman recommended opposition leaders to tender resignations from all assemblies which he had given while meeting opposition leadership on different occasions, ARY News reported on Monday.

    Sources revealed that he asked them to collect resignations of all of their legislators in provincial and national assemblies in order to increase pressure on the federal government.

    The JUI-F chief said that resignations could be taken as the last weapon against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government.

    To this, the opposition leaders have assured him to consult their party leaders, whereas, Fazl’s recommendation will also be considered in the upcoming APC.

    On the other hand, the major opposition parties including Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have suggested changing the date of the upcoming all parties conference (APC), sources told ARY News.

    The suggestion was thrashed by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rehman besides insisting opposition leadership to resign from assemblies, sources added.

    According to the sources, the suggestion to delay APC was placed by PML-N, PPP and Awami National Party (ANP), whereas, Maulana Fazlur Rehman argued that it is impossible to postpone the APC as its invitations were dispatched to all leaders.

    The JUI-F chief toughened its decision to organise APC on June 26 at 11:00 am while the other opposition parties are insisting to delay its organisation following the post-budget debate session in the National Assembly.

    It is pertinent to mention here that the JUI-F chief had invited opposition leaders to attend an all-parties conference to be hosted by him on June 26 (tomorrow) in a bid to launch an anti-government movement.

    The JUI-F chief extended an invitation to Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, ANP chief Asfandyar Wali, National Party chief Mir Hasil Bezinjo and PkMAP leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai for the APC over telephone.

    He also tried to contact Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) chief Akhtar Mengal, a partner of the PTI-led coalition government at the center, but couldn’t get through as he is currently out of the country.

    ISLAMABAD: The Council Of Islamic Ideology (CII) has declared handcuffing accused persons by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials as a move against Islam and Shariah laws, ARY News reported on Thursday.

    A resolution was passed by the council, declaring manacling persons by the anti-corruption watchdog.

    CII stated in the resolution that the act also came under violation of the Pakistani Constitution.

    NAB was asked to refrain from the act of handcuffing citizens is like disrespecting humanity and an inhumane step.

    It is pertinent to mention here many politicians and political parties complained that self-respect was undermined by disrespectful behaviour by NAB officials during the investigation.

    The NAB had also faced severe criticism on social media platforms when reports emerged regarding arrests of Director Archaeology and Museums, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Dr Abdus Samad and production of Dr Shahid Masood, a renowned news anchor, to the court while being handcuffed.

    The two cases sparked debates on the social media platforms for disgracing the prominent personalities through such actions carried out by the NAB officials.

    Earlier on November 29, a meeting of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) had urged the government to enhance punishments for those misusing their authority to issue religious fatwas.

    The council had prepared a comprehensive document, Paigham-i-Pakistan, in January this year that had been acknowledged by senior scholars of the all four mainstream schools of thought in the country, the CII meeting, which was chaired by its chairman Dr Qibla Ayaz, said.

    The landmark document from the religious body signed by 1829 religious scholars across the country, declared several actions as un-Islamic including suicide attacks, spreading sectarianism and anarchy in the name of religion etc.

    Dr Ayaz said that to enforce recommendations of the CII is the responsibility of the government. He said, “we want severe punishments for those clerics who misuse their powers and issue decrees declaring a Muslim non-believer and pronounce him liable to be killed as per Sharia law.” He said all such decrees have been rejected by the CII.

    The council suspended its agenda regarding triple talaq [divorce] in one sitting. The issue was on the agenda of the meeting and the CII will take up the matter in its next meeting.
