Punjab uses thermal drone technology to rescue floods victims

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has lauded the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) for using thermal drones to rescue Punjab flood victims, ARY News reported on Friday.

With much of Punjab now under CCTV surveillance, authorities have deployed thermal imaging drone technology to support rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas. The advanced monitoring tools were used to spot and track stranded citizens and livestock across several districts, including Sialkot, Sargodha, Gujrat, and Jhang.

The initiative—led by the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA)—enabled swift coordination of over 800 rescue cases, ensuring timely evacuation and assistance to vulnerable populations. CM Maryam Nawaz also took to her Facebook account to laud the PSCA team for aiding in the rescue.

Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz noted that the integration of drones with the Safe City surveillance network has significantly enhanced the province’s disaster response capability. By combining real-time aerial imaging with ground coordination, rescue teams were able to reach areas that were otherwise inaccessible due to heavy flooding.

The use of drones for monitoring and rescue efforts is expected to continue as Punjab braces for further rainfall and the risk of rising floodwaters.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited flood-affected areas in Punjab to review the situation and ongoing relief efforts.

Before his departure, Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Inam Haider briefed the Prime Minister on the overall flood situation across the country.

Sky Daily plans legal action, blames doctors for Hulk Hogan’s tragic end

Hulk Hogan’s widow, Sky Daily, is planning to file a lawsuit against at least one of the WWE legend’s doctors, alleging medical malpractice linked to his death.

Hulk Hogan – News and Updates

The case is expected to focus on a neck operation Hulk Hogan underwent in May, which Sky Daily believes caused damage that contributed to his passing at his Clearwater Beach home in July.

Sky Daily has already arranged for a private autopsy as part of her investigation, while the official medical examiner’s report listed a heart attack as Hulk Hogan’s cause of death. Police in Clearwater are still carrying out their own inquiries.

Sources close to the matter say Sky Daily is convinced the procedure compromised vital functions and played a major role in Hulk Hogan’s death. An occupational therapist present at the time of the incident also raised concerns about the surgery.

Hulk Hogan, who died aged 71, remains one of the most famous names in wrestling history. Sky Daily, determined to hold those responsible to account, has not yet released the autopsy results but her decision to pursue legal action suggests she believes the findings support her claims.

If the lawsuit proceeds, it will keep Hulk Hogan’s final months under scrutiny and could place his doctors at the centre of a major legal battle.

Earlier, weeks after Hulk Hogan, 71, passed away on July 24, police continued to investigate the death of the wrestling legend as a new report claims medical malpractice.

As per the report, an occupational therapist, who was purportedly present with Hulk Hogan at the time of his death in Florida last month, claimed to Clearwater Police officials on Friday that a surgeon had ‘severed’ the phrenic nerve of the WWE icon during a recent operation.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the said nerve controls the diaphragm, the muscle primarily responsible for breathing in the human body.

As the investigation continues, a public information officer said that the Clearwater Police Department has been in communication with family members, including both his children, Nick and Brooke.

“The Hogan family has been appreciative of our efforts and our communication with them,” the official said. “All of this takes time.”

“We plan to meet with the family and brief them on the case to this point, and we will share the results of the investigation with the family prior to closing the case and releasing it to the public and media,” the PIO added and confirmed that no records, including bodycam footage, will be released yet, as the investigation is ongoing.

NEPRA finalises hearing on July 25 fuel cost relief

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has finalised its hearing on the Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee (CPPA-G)’s request for monthly Fuel Charge Adjustments (FCA) for July 2025.

During the proceedings, CPPA-G sought a relief of PKR 1.69 per unit. Following the public hearing, NEPRA will announce its determination, specifying the approved FCA amount to be reflected in consumer bills and the applicable billing period.

Along with the request of FCA, it was further presented that the notified FCA will also be applicable on K-Electric (KE) customers, by way of tariff rationalisation as approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on August 19, 2025 and any difference between the monthly FCA rate determined for KE and notified FCA be made available to KE by way of subsidy. Moreover, as per the letter submitted by the Ministry of Energy, the uniform FCA application shall start from the month of June 2025.

When NEPRA Authority asked for KE’s point of view, CEO KE Moonis Abdullah Alvi shared that the company will be fully compliant with NEPRA’s notified decision on the imposition of the uniform FCA.

Utilities incur fuel charge adjustments due to global variations in fuel prices used to generate electricity, and the changes in the generation mix. These costs are reflected in customer bills following NEPRA’s scrutiny and approval. Customers also benefit from negative FCA in their bills when global fuel prices decrease. Rates charged to customer bills are determined by NEPRA and notified by the Federal Government.

As per the Regulatory Authority’s decision, the negative FCA shall apply to all the consumer categories except lifeline consumers, domestic protected consumers, Electric Vehicle Charges Stations (EVCS) and prepaid electricity consumers of all categories who opted for prepaid tariff.

  • Floodwaters enter Farrukhabad colony as Ravi River overflows in Lahore

Floodwaters enter Farrukhabad colony as Ravi River overflows in Lahore

LAHORE: In Farrukhabad Colony near Shahrada, Lahore, a severe flood situation has occurred, as waters from the Ravi River flood have entered residential areas, dipping homes and streets under 2 to 3 feet of water, ARY News reported.

This rise in floodwaters has caused residents to do a swift evacuation from Farrukhabad and shift their valuables to the rooftops or safer places.

According to ARY reports, the Ravi River flood at Shahdara is flowing at a dangerously high level of 215,000 cusecs, exceeding its normal capacity.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued advisories, indicating that the flood is forming waves, indicating strong water pressure and speed.

Residents of Farrukhabad and locals have started the process of evacuation from Farrukhabad in bulk to get to safer areas, and many are moving to temporary shelters. Flood has also entered adjacent areas, indicating the serious concerns and displacements.

Despite the situation being serious, crowds have gathered near the Ravi Bridge to enjoy, with many busy taking selfies and trying to get closer to the floodwaters. Crowds include children, too, who are not giving ear to the authorities.

Rescue teams and personnel have repeatedly warned the public to keep a distance and adhere to safety advisories. Announcements are being made by the loudspeakers and mosque networks. But people are not cooperating with the authorities.

In response to the Ravi River flood, the government of Punjab, in coordination with the Pakistan Army, Rescue 1122 and the district administration, has launched a rescue operation. Medical and relief camps have been established to support affected people and the flood-hit region.

The authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation and are asking people to help by staying away from riverbanks. They want everyone to remember that playing in floodwaters is dangerous and can make it harder for rescue teams to do their work.
