England team face indigestion problems despite hiring personal chef

RAWALPINDI: Players of the England cricket team are facing indigestion problems despite hiring their personal chef during their stay in Pakistan for three test-match series against Pakistan, ARY News reported.

As per details, due to upset stomachs, only five players of the England team did practice today for the first test match, starting tomorrow in Rawalpindi.

Captain of England team Ben Stokes skipped the unveiling ceremony of the series trophy and press conference and Joe Root was sent in on his behalf.

It may be noted that the England team, led by Ben Stokes, landed in Pakistan with its team chef amid food concerns in Pakistan.

The appointment comes following a debrief of the limited-overs side’s experiences in the country during their seven-match T20I series.

The feedback from players and support staff was that the food on offer, particularly at match venues, was not quite up to scratch, with a handful suffering from upset stomachs at certain parts of the tour.

Opener Imam-ul-Haq also contributed with a career-best 157, adding 208 for the second as Australian bowlers toiled hard for wickets.

“I enjoy scoring runs against Australia, who are definitely one of the top teams in the world,” said Azhar Ali, whose hundred was his fourth against the visitors over the years.

“I wanted to score a double hundred, but they did not allow quick runs. When I took risks against spinners, I got out,” he said, after falling to a reverse sweep off part-time spinner Marnus Labuschagne.

Azhar Ali, 37, lofted spinner Nathan Lyon for his eighth boundary towards mid-wicket to complete his 19th hundred in his 92nd Test.

He has been Pakistan’s mainstay in the Test batting line-up since making his debut in 2010 and boasts a triple hundred against the West Indies — the first in the history of day-night Tests.

In all, he batted for 536 minutes.

“They test your ability and challenge you with some tight bowling, so it’s always enjoyable to come good against that, and I am delighted at my knock,” said Azhar.

Despite their struggle to get wickets, Azhar praised Australia’s bowlers.

“On this pitch, they bowled well and kept us checked all the time, challenged us and never allowed us to score quickly, so credit must be given to them,” he said.

  • Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi is ICC Player of the Year 2021

Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi is ICC Player of the Year 2021

International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday named Pakistan’s young pacer Shaheen Afridi as the winner of Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ‘Player of the Year’ for 2021.

Topped by a sizzling opening spell against India at last year’s T20 World Cup encounter where he dismissed both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, Shaheen Afridi took 78 wickets in 36 internationals at an average of 22.20 with best bowling figures of 6/51 in the year 2021.

After a slow start to the year in Test cricket in New Zealand, Afridi burst to life during the home series against South Africa. He continued his brilliant form throughout the rest of the year in the away tours of Zimbabwe, West Indies and Bangladesh. Overall, he claimed 47 wickets in only nine matches at a staggering average of 17.06.

Swing, seam, sheer pace and sizzling yorkers – Shaheen Shah Afridi gave an exhibition of it all in the year 2021.

Earlier, Pakistan’s all-format Captain Babar Azam and wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan won accolades of ICC ODI Player Of The Year and T20I Player Of The Year respectively.

    Memorable spell

A high-pressure encounter against India in Dubai beckoned in October. The T20 World Cup tournament opener for both sides with the history well and truly against Pakistan. But Shaheen Afridi’s opening burst changed it all and evoked audible gasps from one and all at the wizardry on display.

He would first trap Rohit Sharma with a late in-dipper. This would be followed by the dismissal of KL Rahul, who saw his stumps knocked over with another peach of a delivery. India simply could not recover from this, slumping to their first-ever defeat against Pakistan at a World Cup. Later on, he would also get the prized scalp of Virat Kohli in the death overs.

The numbers (3/31) simply do not do justice to what everyone witnessed from Shaheen on that fateful day in Dubai.

    What Indian cricketers said

Indian captain Virat Kohli was left in awe of Afridi’s spell during the match-up. Heaping praises, Kohli said post-match: “He put our batsmen under pressure immediately with the new ball, and he ran in with intensity and showed that he’s bowling in consistent areas, so as batsmen you are forced to be a bit watchful.

“That spell kind of put us on the back foot immediately, and from there on to get those extra 20, 25 runs, in the end, seemed pretty difficult when you lose three wickets for 20 runs.”

ECB chief apologises for cancelling Pakistan’s tour

LONDON: After a prolonged silence, England Cricket Board (ECB) has finally apologised for cancelling Pakistan’s scheduled tour, earlier this month.

England had to play two T20Is at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on 13 and 14 October.

Chairman Ian Watmore in his first public comments since the ECB angered Pakistan by pulling out of two Twenty20 matches scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi next month, Watmore offered an apology for last week’s late withdrawal.

The ECB chief insisted England would commit to a full tour comprising three Tests and five one-day internationals next winter.

Sources earlier said that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)’s withdrawal from the men and women teams’ tour of Pakistan has made UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other senior officials unhappy.

English cricketers say they were clueless ECB will pull out of Pakistan tour

The cricketers’ union of England has denied the claims that the players were behind the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) pulling out of the Pakistan tour scheduled in October and added they were not even asked if they would travel, ARY News learned from a Daily Mail news report published yesterday (Thursday).

Team England Player Partnership (TEPP), a cricket players’ union, says they were left in the dark by the ECB following New Zealand’s abandoning of the scheduled series and to leave Pakistan last week. The NZ fiasco came after a security alert minutes before the opening match in Rawalpindi.

The report further said it supposes that the ECB board met on Sunday and the players were told of the decision to cancel the tour that same afternoon without consultation.

Earlier, it was reported that TEPP had actually intervened and stopped the tour going ahead. However, in a strong rebuttal by the Union, a spokesperson told the media that at no stage has the ECB ever asked “Team England Player Partnership or the teams, men and women, whether the tour should go ahead or whether players were prepared to tour Pakistan”.

“At no stage has Team England Player Partnership informed the ECB that the players would not be touring.”

Pakistan ‘used and binned’ by England over cancelled tour

Earlier this week, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja said he felt “used and then binned” after England cancelled a white-ball tour for their men’s and women’s teams next month.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) cited “increasing concerns about travelling to the region” just days after New Zealand also pulled out of a tour to Pakistan over security concerns.

However, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Christian Turner, confirmed the decision was taken by the ECB on the grounds of player welfare.
