    Electric tram routes announced in Lahore

    LAHORE: After the success of electric buses in Punjab, Electric tram to hit Lahore roads to facilitate citizens, ARY News reported.

    As per details, the electric tram will run along a route from Harbanspura to Thokar Niaz Baig, as part of a new urban transport initiative.

    Authorities have also decided to streamline underpasses along Canal Road, aligning them into a single lane to improve traffic flow. Additionally, plans are underway to shift the Jail Road underpass from the left to the right side of the road.

    The electric tram will operate on the extreme left side of Canal Road, ensuring minimal disruption to existing traffic. To facilitate smoother operations, the road width near bus stops will be expanded.

    The Transport Department is actively reviewing various aspects of the tram route to ensure its feasibility and efficiency.

    Furthermore, discussions are ongoing regarding the construction of an underground road from Jallo to Harbanspura to enhance connectivity in the city.

    Imported from China, the first electric tram earlier reached Lahore, and will initially be operated on Canal Road, according to an official.

    The tram consists of three interconnected units and runs entirely on electricity. With just a 10-minute charge, it can cover 25 to 27 kilometers and has a capacity to carry 250 passengers.

    The tram runs like a subway but operates on roads. A pilot project already begun near Lahore Airport to test the battery-powered electric vehicle.

    A Public Relations Officer said that the tram was assembled at the Ali Town Depot. It will be launched as a pilot project in its initial phase.

    He said that the service will be free of cost initially during the pilot phase.

    “The tram service will be free during the trial period. If the trial is successful, ticket prices will be introduced for regular operations,” the spokesperson added.

    LAHORE- August 7, 2025: The Punjab School Education Department has announced an extension of summer vacation for all public and private schools across the province, providing relief to students and parents.

    According to an official notification issued on August 7, 2025, the summer holidays, originally set to end earlier, will now continue from August 14 to August 31, 2025. Schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 1, 2025, resuming full academic activities.

    This decision, approved by the Competent Authority, builds on the department’s earlier notification dated May 20, 2025. The extended summer break applies to all educational institutions under the jurisdiction of the Punjab School Education Department. Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of District Education Authorities (DEAs) have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the revised schedule.

    Clearing Confusion Over Fake Notifications

    The announcement comes just a day after the department debunked a fake notification circulating online, which falsely claimed an extension of the summer vacation. The School Education Department had promptly clarified that no such decision had been made at the time and urged the public to rely only on official updates. The August 7 notification puts an end to the confusion, confirming the extended summer break until August 31, 2025.

    LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was discharged from the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in Lahore, ARY News reported.

    Qureshi had been admitted to the hospital for eight days due to chest pain. Following his discharge, a heavy police contingent escorted the former foreign minister from the hospital to jail.

    The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf vice chairman was rushed to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) from Jail on May 17 after reporting chest pain.

    According to his lawyer Rana Mudassir, Qureshi was shifted to hospital following Fajr prayers. The former foreign minister underwent an initial check-up by jail doctors before being moved to the hospital for further evaluation, where he went through multiple diagnostic tests.

    Rana Mudassar confirmed that the jail administration informed Qureshi’s family about his condition, and they are being updated on his medical status.

    Earlier, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi indicted former foreign minister Shah Mehmood, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (CM KP) Ali Amin Gandapur, and other PTI leaders in the GHQ attack case.

    As per details, the Rawalpindi ATC heard the case and charged Ali Amin Gandapur and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, along with 14 other PTI leaders.

    It is pertinent to mention here that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) acquitted former prime minister Imran Khan and PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi in cipher case.

    IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb announced the verdict on the pleas challenging the conviction in the cipher case.

    In January last year, PTI founder and party’s vice-chairman were sentenced to 10 years each in prison in cipher case.

    SARGODHA: Police have registered a case against popular YouTuber Ducky Bhai for performing a reckless stunt on the motorway that went viral on social media.

    In the video, Ducky Bhai can be seen driving a car at a speed exceeding 200 kilometers per hour, with his foot on the steering wheel and his eyes closed, pretending to be asleep. The dangerous stunt sparked widespread criticism online and caught the attention of the authorities.

    The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) lodged an FIR at Laksian Police Station in Sargodha under Section 279 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which pertains to rash driving or riding on a public way.

    According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, driving in such a manner is extremely dangerous and poses a serious threat to public safety and property. The spokesperson added that such acts, performed for social media attention, are irresponsible and will not be tolerated.

    The NHMP has issued a warning against engaging in life-threatening stunts and reaffirmed that it will enforce the law without discrimination in such cases.

    LAHORE: Young doctors in Punjab have announced shutdown of outpatient departments (OPDs) across the province, ARY News reported.

    As per details, OPDs at Children’s Hospital and General Hospitals in Lahore have stopped functioning, while other government hospitals in the city continue to operate their OPDs.

    Hospitals like Jinnah, Mayo, and Services Hospital are among those that remain operational. The decision comes after the Grand Health Alliance protesters were dispersed by police yesterday.

    LAHORE: In a horrific incident, an infant girl suffered severe burns due to the alleged negligence of the hospital staff at the Gangaram Hospital in Lahore, ARY News reported.

    As per details, the baby was placed in an incubator, which malfunctioned, causing the temperature to rise and resulting in burns to the baby’s body due to negligence of the hospital staff.

    According to the infant’s father, Rafaqat Ali, the hospital staff was irresponsible and uncooperative when he questioned them about the incident. He alleged that the staff members were rude and even expelled him from the nursery.

    The father appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for justice, seeking an investigation into the incident and action against the hospital staff responsible for the negligence.

    It is important to mention here that in 2023, an infant died of burns after being exposed to overheating in an incubator at Lahore’s Children’s Hospital.

    The infant got burnt due to severe negligence by doctors, nurses, and medical staff.

    Taking notice of the matter, the then Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi reached the hospital and took a briefing on the incident.

    A four-member investigation committee was also formed to find reasons behind the incident.

    LAHORE: The Punjab Health Department released an inquiry report on Tuesday regarding the deaths of patients allegedly caused by a reaction to Ceftriaxone injections at Mayo Hospital, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

    Three nurses—Saima Seher, Nazia Hassan, and Sunaina Khalid—have been suspended for negligence.

    The authorities have also issued show-cause notices to the suspended nurses and directed them to report to the Punjab Health Department. They have been instructed to submit written responses within seven days.

    The inquiry committee identified misconduct by the nurses, concluding that their negligence and malpractices in administering powdered injections (including reconstitution, dilution, and route of administration), along with bad dispensing practices of Ceftriaxone, led to adverse drug reactions in 16 patients on March 9, 2025, in the Chest Surgical Ward.

    The report attributes the incident directly to the nurses’ negligence.

    However, following the fatal incidents at Mayo Hospital, the stock was returned as a precautionary measure.

    According to sources, the Ceftriaxone injection was set to expire in May 2026, and its procurement was handled by the Director General (DG) Health Punjab, rather than Mayo Hospital itself.
