    Karachi police make major progress in Marwah rape, murder case

    KARACHI: The DNA of both suspects, Faizan and Abdullah, matched with the samples of the victimised five-year-old girl, Marwah, who had been murdered after being subjected to rape in Karachi, ARY News reported on Sunday.

    The police investigators have confirmed that DNAs of both Faizan and Abdullah were matched with the victim’s sample in the rape and murder case. The investigators said the minor girl had died while being raped by ‘drunk’ suspects. They added that the suspect Nawaz was not found guilty in the incident.

    On September 15, two accused in rape-cum-murder case of five-year-old Marwah in Essa Nagri had confessed to their crime.

    According to the investigation report presented by the police in the case before an anti-terrorism court, both the accused namely Faiz alias Faizu and Abdullah had confessed to their crime of raping and killing of Marwah.

    As per the report, Faiz was living near Marwah’s house who abducted her and took to his house, where he along with his accomplice Abdullah raped minor girl Marwah.

    Faiz had said in his confessional statement that the girl was raped till death and later, her body was thrown at a trash heap in the area after wrapping her in a piece of cloth.

    Marwah was found raped and murdered on September 6, two days after going missing from old Subzi Mandi area. Police had said the girl’s body was found wrapped in a piece of cloth at a trash heap on a plot.

    Motorcyclist swept away in floodwater in Karachi

    KARACHI: A motorcycle has swept away in floodwater in Karachi’s Orangi Town after heavy rainfall hit the metropolis, ARY News reported on Sunday.

    The sorrowful incident took place in Makhdoom Shah Colony of Orangi Town.

    The residents have started searching the missing motorcyclist, however, rescue teams have not reached the site so far.

    At least three people including a 10-year-old boy have died of electrocution in different areas of the metropolis.

    The rain has played havoc in the city, whereas the majority of the roads are submerged with rainwater. Two youth were electrocuted to death in Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Landhi.

    The torrential rain has flooded Orangi Town, Surjani Town, Clifton, Gadap Town, Garden Town, Federal B Area and Jamshed Road while locals in Gulshan Iqbal, Liaquatabad, North Karachi, Landhi and Buffer Zone are facing electricity load shedding.

    Death toll jumps to six in Karachi’s mysterious gas leakage incident

    KARACHI: Death toll has jumped to six in a mysterious gas leakage in Kemari port area of the metropolis and over 100 affected were shifted to the various healthcare facilities of the city, ARY News reported on Monday. 

    According to details, six people pronounced dead including two women and dozens of hospitalized after falling unconscious. Three dead individuals were identified as Maymar Begum, Rizwan, and Ahsan.

    Initial reports claimed that more than 25 people were affected by the poisonous gas that spread in the Jackson Market area near the shipping port, local police, and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area to conduct a search operation after a thorough search the area was declared clear for commuters after the initial gas release.

    The teams of Pakistan Navy have also reached the spot on the appeal of Federal Minister Ali Zaidi to assist the rescue and the relief operations.

    The spokesperson of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in a statement has claimed that reports pertaining to the gas being released by a recent ship that anchored down at the port were untrue.

    He maintained that there was no report thus far of such a gaseous presence at the port.

    Taking to the micro-blogging website Twitter, Minister Ali Zaidi tweeted, “By the Help of Almighty, things are now getting under control. NBCD team is deployed & are investigating root cause of the poisonous gas.”

    Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has ordered the Commissioner of Karachi police to submit a report on the matter on a priority basis.

    CM Sindh also issued directives to ensure the providence of the best healthcare facilities to those affected by the gas.

    Two die as ‘out-of-control’ car plunges into sea in Karachi

    KARACHI: Two people lost their lives as the driver lost control over his vehicle which plunged into the sea near Defence Phase VIII area of Karachi, ARY News reported on Sunday.

    A police officer said two persons were sitting inside the vehicle which went out of control by an under training driver and fell into the sea. Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) South Shiraz Nazir said the men were brought out of the water and shifted to a nearby hospital.

    The hospital sources said that the critically wounded persons failed to survive. The deceased persons were identified as Muhammad Iftikhar and Danial, who were relatives.

    Earlier in July last year, at least four people had lost their lives and six others suffered critical injuries when their vehicle plunged into a deep ravine in Haripur.

    Police and rescue officials rushed to the scene and shifted the injured and the bodies to the hospital after retrieving them from the ravine.

    Rescue officials said that the ill-fated vehicle with 22 passengers on board was heading to Nara Amazai when it plunged into the ravine near Kapri.

    Dead body of missing girl recovered from manhole in Karachi

    KARACHI: Police officials claimed to have recovered dead body of a minor girl from Surjani Town Sector 7 on Friday who went missing yesterday, ARY News reported.

    The officials told media that the deceased girl is identified as Kehkashan who was missing since Thursday 12:00 noon.

    Family of the girl said that the manhole left opened for cleaning purpose which led to the death of Kehkashan. They said that she went out from home to a nearby shop and fell into it. The family said that they are not willing to pursue any legal action.

    Earlier in July last year, a five-year-old child, who was said to have gone missing two days back, had found dead in Karachi’s Jamshed Quarters locality.

    The body of the child was recovered from a manhole near his home in the neighbourhood.

    He was playing with his friends when he fell into the manhole. However, his friends didn’t notice him falling into the manhole. His body was recovered today during the routine cleaning of the sewerage line.

    The child’s parents said they have not yet decided whether or not to seek legal action against the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) over the death of their son because of the open manhole.

    Police arrest three suspects for looting man inside Karachi mosque

    KARACHI: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested three suspects accused of looting the citizen inside Karachi’s mosque, ARY News reported.

    As per details, three suspects identified as Iqbal, Rizwan and Muneer looted Rs2.5 lac from a man inside the mosque situated at Bahadurabad.

    SSP Nauman Siddiqui said that the citizen went to deposit cash into the bank and was returning from the bank after he failed to reach before the closure time. Suspects chased him from there and looted him inside mosque.

    ARY News on November 9 acquired the CCTV footage in which robbers were looting a man inside the mosque.

    Earlier in September,  Police arrested a gang of robbers feared for their unique style of robbing shopkeepers in Karachi.

    According to details, Ferozabad police arrested a 60-year-old man and his son for running a three-member gang robbing shopkeepers using hypnotism and other deceptive tactics.

    Police say one of the members of the gang, a woman, managed to avoid arrest as she left for her native country, Iran, before the raid.

    Rangers recover arms and ammunition in raid in Gulshan-e-Maymar

    KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers Sindh in a raid in Karachi’s area of Gulshan-e-Maymar captured illegal arms and ammunition, ARY News reported on Saturday.

    A spokesman of Rangers in a statement said the paramilitary forces carried out the operation on the information from the arrested outlaws and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.

    The rangers found 5 Kalashnikovs. 9 MM pistols, 11 hand grenade, SMGs, Mobile Phones, bullets, and other ammunition.

    “The recovered ammunition is said to be of the Lyari Gang War”, said the Rangers spokespersons.

    The Rangers and police had launched an operation in Karachi on September 5, 2013, following the directives of the then government in the wake of the rising incidents of terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and targeted killings.

    The operation now in its sixth year, has improved the law and order situation in the city, which has become more peaceful during these years.

    Earlier, the paramilitary agency in a major raid at a house in Azizabad, Federal B Area, pointed out by the two arrested suspects and recovered a large quantity of arms and munitions.

    According to spokesman of Rangers, 195 rifle grenades, 98 40mm grenades, 52 hand-grenades, 13 illuminate grenades, 19 Avan bombs, 11 RPG7 rockets, 49 safety fuses, 170 detonators, 17 kilo plastic explosives, two RPGs, one grenade launcher, 2MP5 six MG, five LMGs, one HMG and two snipers were among the captured munitions.

    One killed, four injured in gun battle at Karachi’s Sabzi Mandi

    KARACHI: At least one person was killed and four other sustained bullet wounds on Wednesday in cross-firing between two groups at Sabzi Mandi located at Super Highway, Karachi.

    As per details, the gun battle broke out between two groups in the market, resulting in death of one person and injuries to four others. The cause of the brawl could not be ascertained yet.

    Following the incident, the traders of the market shut the door of the market and staged sit-in at the Super Highway, creating traffic jam from both sides of the road.

    According to Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Irfan Bahadur, the injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital.

    The SSP further said the two men involved in the shootout have been arrested with weapons recovered from their custody.

    SSP Bahadur added evidence is being gathered from the site of the incident.

    Yesterday, three people were gunned down and two other sustained injuries in exchange of fire over land dispute in Gulshan-e-Maymar area of the metropolis.

    Additional Police Surgeon, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Dr Saleem Shaikh said three people succumbed to their bullet wounds on the way while being shifted to the hospital, while two others critically injured are under treatment.

    Medical student shot dead during cross firing between police, robbers

    KARACHI: A girl was reportedly killed on Friday in exchange of firing between police and robbers in North Karachi, ARY News reported.

    An eye-witness, Shahid Niaz Alam said two suspects were robbing Nimrah at Anda Morr, when upon her screaming for help they shot bullets at her.

    Police instantly arrived at the scene of the robbery and opened fire on the suspects leaving them injured. Police caught them and brought to Shahrah-e-Noorjehan police station.

    While, people rushed the 20-year-old medical student to a nearby hospital in a rickshaw for medical treatment, however she could not survive.

    Police officials said according to medico-legal report the girl was shot with a small weapon, while four police officials on this occasion had submachine guns (SMGs). They said shell of the bullet could not be found during post-mortem.

    They said one of the robbers was under treatment at intensive care unit of the hospital.

    “Condition of the injured robber is critical, therefore his statement could not be recorded,” they added.

    Police said eye-witnesses said during the cross firing Nimrah was behind police officials.

    While, family members of the victim have sought justice from the authorities blaming police for the killing.

    Only forensic report will determine whether the girl was killed from the robbers’ bullets or police firing.

    She will be buried in Karachi on Saturday (today).
